One Piece Film Z Discussion
 
It's up online, but it's raw and in low quality. I skipped many dialogue parts, but the battle scenes are probably the best I've seen in any anime, trumping even the 4th Bleach movie. Also, Aokiji is there as a good guy, being the best (ex) Marine of all time. Oddly enough, he sits back half of the time, even though it seems like he could have soloed all of the problems and saved the world himself. Then again, we d see how much Akainu screwed him up. It seems to fit more into OP's storyline alot more than the others. And it shows the backstory of a Roger-era Marine. It seems to be way more about Z and his relationships with the Marines (especially the ones he was friends with and the ones he trained), as opposed to the SHs. It could've been called: Zephyr the Movie! feat. The Strawhat Pirates! But there is no doubt that this is the best anime-adapted movie I've seen. Shame the character development couldn't be fully acknowledged since I can't understand the language.


Thoughts on the ending:

I'm still mixed on the whole thing about Zephyr being not only shown in the light of a hero, but having a tragic backstory. Plus the final scene of showing him being Viewtiful Joe as a child really cemented the idea of wanting the audience to pity him. I almost feel as if this is sort of like Kirito pitying Akihiko in SAO. I know this guy had a tragic life, but he wanted to blow up the New World. I don't think I can juggle those thoughts as easily as I'm supposed to. However, the scene that really made me feel for him is right after the SHs sail off and Z is at his last stand. He fights all of his students, and even makes KIZARU GIVE A SHIT. LIKE HOW. Anyways, they Marines started crying as they had to take him down. This is like if Naruto, Kakashi, Minato, Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan were all magically together and were on each other's side and were forced to kill Jiraya, to protect everyone else. Damn.

Just watched it. Pretty good.
In subs.

So, a pirate killed Z's wife and kid. Kinda looked like Roger. And then another pirate killed his subordinates and took his right arm. Said that pirate later became a Shichibukai.

Z was voiced by Jiraiya's seiyuu. Also Abuto in Gintama. And Norland and Krieg in OP
And just figured Akainu was also voiced by the same VA as Kenpachi from Bleach and MADAO from Gintama.

Ain's modo modo no mi. Heh. Brook looks about the same.

Heh. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji were to see Aokiji at the hot springs as well. His leg....

This is the best hst movie period. You can tell Oda was in charge. This movie made it into my all time anime favorites list. In op it is actually one of the best if not number 1 fights in the series. I love this movie.

Sometime after the current arc would be my guess. Though it is most likely not canon. That is okay the movie was good enough to stand alone.
