My grandfather...
 

Last Friday, my grandfather was taken to the emergency department for breathing difficulties. His lungs and kidneys were damaged and he currently requires a medical ventilator in order to breathe. Not only that, but today he suffered a heart attack that threatened to end his 82 years on this world... but he is strong. He is still alive. He has been through so much already, surviving anything you can imagine: a stroke, two car accidents, grenade shrapnel... it feel so unreal that this would end his life... I truly hope that he will survive this, like he survived everything else in his life.

I understand if you think it's unnecessary for me to write this... but I had to tell someone. It's in these sad times I need my friends the most...

UPDATE: As of 2013-01-09, my grandfather has temporarily woken up. Although still unable to speak or move, he is now able to communicate through facial expressions when spoken to. He is obviously getting better `:))

UPDATE: As of 2013-01-17, his breathing difficulties have been solved and his heart condition is stabile. However, he is still unable to breathe normally and may have to stay at the hospital for a month or more.

UPDATE: As of 2013-01-26, he is now able to breathe on his own and communicate with short and simple sentences. Hopefully he will be all right within a number of weeks.

UPDATE: As of 2013-01-29, the situation has suddenly became much worse... there's a risk that he will not survive for many more days...

Update: As of 2013-01-30, it is over... he have passed away... `~(

I guess you're right... he has survived much that has killed many others. He has been near death many times... and he has always survived. I guess he will survive this too... or at least I hope he will.

I don't honestly know what music he likes... I brought him his favorite type of chocolate, but he still haven't woke up from unconsciousness.

Coming to think of it, most of our conversations have been me asking him things about his military life. I don't know much about his youth other than his time in the army.

Of course not. I think that even though he's unconscious, he can hear what the people around him say. So earlier today I talked to him, saying only positive things. And I am quite certain that one of his eyebrows moved when I told him about old, good memories.

I hope that he gets better, yet in the same time if it comes to that point that I hate so much, I would hope that his death be peaceful and painless. But of course let's hope it never gets to that...

Ah, that sucks. Unfortunately for me, I never really was close with anyone in my family, especially my grandparents, because the majority of my family lives in florida, and we live in Alaska. I would cherish whatever time you can spend with him, or whenever you can talk to him.

Wow sounds like he's been through so much hopefully he can recover from all this.
