Norwegians are stupid!!!

I watched a vidclip in which a reporter interviewed people on the street, asking how they felt about Obama winning. This video was filmed on monday, so Obama hadnt won yet!

When he asked "You know Obama won the election, right?", they all answer "Yeah off course", and its so hilarious!

But the worst is the second question: " What do you think of the leader of the republican party, Wanye Rooney?" And several people actually answerwed as if he was the leader and pretended they were right! Honestly!!! Dont they follow media at all???

I dont know if I should laugh or cry, have Norwegians become isolated idiots???

1. Calling all Norwegians stupid is offensive.

2. A lot of foreign countries, not just Norway, don't really give a crap about our politics. Hell, if you asked Americans who was the Leader of X or about the economy in Y they wouldn't have anything to say because they don't know anything either. Thus this is hypocritical.

3. I hope you know those types of shows/surveys/interviews purposely cut out any right or smart-sounding answers because they are only looking for a certain answer.

What's even worse is that, atleast in America, there's a tendency to actively not care. It's one thing to be ignorant of something you don't have an actionable use for, like who's the President/Prime Minister of a place you have no involvement with. It's quite another to go to another country, be told who their officials are, but be adamant about the fact that you really don't want to know, even while there . There's some truth in Patrice O'Neil.

Calling all Norwegians stupid is incorrect and offensive, however, of course there exist people in Norway (and the rest of the world) who will not follow foreign elections actively. There is no point for Norwegians (such as you) or Swedes (such as me) to care about an election in a country far away across the Atlantic Ocean, when we barely know the names of the politicians in our own countries. I only know the names of our party leaders, the minister of finance and the minister of foreign affairs. But if someone asks me about every single minister candidate in the People's Party or Christian Democrats, I will be unable to reply.

Norway and Sweden has shared a long history together, and our people have the same blood in our veins. Which is why I think that we should research ourselves and each other before even caring about such distant countries as the United States of America, Zimbabwe or Laos. A country's size, population or economy doesn't matter to me - all I care about is:

1. How will it affect my country?
2. How will it affect the countries I care about?

Other than that, I couldn't care less about who rules the United States of America.

Woooh! Woh! Calm down!

First of all, I named the title only in the intention of attaracting readers, and get their attention!

I am norwegian myself, and as far as I know, the only active norwegian in this forum. Its like when colored call an other colored ";);););););)".
Off course I know they clipped out those who answered correctly, but still : many answered wrong, and thats a shame.

Yes, Norwegians should really know the names of the us president candidates, the election has been the MAJOR happening the last months! I havent seen Norwegian politics in media in many weeks! USA is the world only superpower, and its really important for us in Norway!

Leewannabee................

This happened in America!!!

These types of interviews are done all the time and you've proven exactly why they are effective. Not only do they create shock value, but they make you feel good about yourself for knowing sh*t that you already should.

They create a shift of responsibility so that if something goes wrong either on a large scale or in your personal life you can say, "It's people like those that are messing up our country" or "At least I'm not as dumb as those guys."

And let's be honest here, yes you can hype it up as much as possible..."They are running to be leader of the free world, you should know this" but even educated individuals will draw blanks outside of their comfort zone or with areas that aren't in their field of study. Just yesterday my orgo professor had an extra credit quiz where he just wanted to see how many people knew Mitt Romney's real first name and I drew the world's biggest blank. I knew about his personal life, his religion, his education, his career, his policies, his novel on American exceptionalism, even his 18 grandchildren, but I couldn't even remember his first name and I called myself an informed voter.

Do you know who the president of Australia is, or the government of Brazil, or the newly elected party in Greece, or the British prime minister, or the number of provinces in Canada? All of these are important facts but the chances of someone knowing all of them who doesn't study politics, geography, or history is very slim. I bet you could randomly poll a bunch of award winning physicists at a CERN convention and get a highlight reel with questions like these, and that is a collection of some of the most brilliant men in the world.

I don't blame Norwegians for not knowing about U.S politics.
Hell only reason I know about it is because you can't escape it here.
