Better to forgive or hold grudges?

If someone wrongs you would you forgive or hold a grudge? Generally, which is better road to take?

Well, by ignoring them you are holding a grudge where the retaliation is to ignore.

I possess the inability to let things go (mentally, but physically I can appear far more calmly than I really feel). The stress is incredible, and I therefore hope forgiveness is better, but as I can't forgive, I can't know for sure.

Obviously I could post what the Bible says. :)

None of the above.

I've been struggling with this question myself, seems like forgiveness is something I do posses but in limited form, I almost always end up ignoring the person like Maik does. It's very difficult to forgive someone after a wrong is done. I feel like it's something I should strive for, but I often think it makes one look like a fool if wronged again later.

The forgiveness is not for the other person, it's for your own piece of mind.

When I say I ignore, I more mean that I ignore it than I ignore them. Bad word choice.

Really depends. You can forgive someone beating you up for something, but then they regret it, or you can forgive petty things. I cannot forgive someone who has took the life of a precious person though. I doubt anyone has the moral strength to accomplish that.

As for grudges... they usually consist of bearing malice towards the person you hold a grudge against. And... I know that hiding too much malice deep inside yourself makes your face get wrinkles and ruins your health because of the sheer malice you feel, so... that's not a good thing obviously.

Overall, it's better to avoid holding grudges against someone as a general, although there are some things that you cannot forgive.

I forgive but I sure as hell don't forget. I believe this is the best way to live in my opinion.

I believe if you choose to hold a grudge, it can have negative impact on your emotions. It is all a matter of perspective, some people will think it is better to hold a grudge. Personally, I think we all hold a grudge, but we either make it apparent, keep it within us or try and let it go. Grudges can go away with time, any grudge held after a certain long period of time, you may just be forcing yourself to hold a grudge. Or, if you really are a sensitive person, that grudge actually means something to you.

I've held grudges, but not intentionally. I've wanted to let them go, and the feeling of jealousy went away after a while. Certain events that have happened to me, I feel numb to altogether.

Say you're playing a game. You're playing against someone you feel oddly competitive against. If they win, how do you feel? I'd pretend it doesn't bother me, and move on. That's just me, though. Some people might not actually feel that inclined to be upset. I'm just aggressive when it comes to winning.

Personal ideology.... Forgive.

But for entertainment purposes, I hope everyone else holds grudges haha!

Re: Better to forgive or hold grudges?

As the old saying goes Forgive and forget....but depending on what it is that has wronged you, thats up to you.

Example:Someone kills a member of your family....logic would show that you wouldnt forgive and hold that grudge, but what would you gain from it other then revenge?....Nothing.

I hate playing this card but We all have a reason on this planet and we have our entrances and exits, but what we do with it defines us.And it takes guts to forgive someone who had Ultimately wronged you.

So in answer to your question....depends.

When someone wants me to forgive them I hold a grudge.
When someone says I can't forgive them for what they done I would forgive them.
Summary: I will do opposite of what they want me to do.

That sounds closer to apathy. What if they don't care what you do?

Then we both agree that what happened wasn't really important and we continue on with our lives. I really don't care what happens I just want more amusement in my life.
