Well you start small, and you start cheap is the idea. Sending unmanned and manned modules for survey work and with say geneticay modified fungi and bacteria at first, the type that produces those gasses, then you keep an eye on that and add or subtract on a slow scale for a couple decades and use the same tech you're refining.on that project to repair things here (also everything from material science to weaponry would benefit too and medicine) then begin larger scale stuff in say seven decades.

Someone who was infected made it through three air ports. They're already preparing hospitals in the us.

I have nothing inherently against a world government or one that attempts to be Utopian. I think the issue with Utopian is that everyone had a different definition of Utopian. I mean, you have got people who have a dadaist point of oview who believe randomness is the purest way of living, Christians who have a moral code surrounding God, existentialists who are essentially like "you have to figure out why you are here on your own and have to create your own standards to live by," and many many other points of view. These make for a lot of different ideas of what a Utopian society is.It would be practically impossible to get everyone on the same boat, even if some massive, Big-Brother brainwashing occurred.

As of right now, with our current technology and our current production capabilities, terraforming even the moon wouldn't turn a profit. It would be one of the most expensive ventures in our lifetime. But as you said, we would definitely be held off until a later time.

I had to break it into two vms because it wouldn't fit. OH 1000 CHARACTER LIMIT. GG

I mean sad as it is, that it would be easier to create a new home than save our old one because of that crap..but.

all food and farm aninals are genetically modified, albiet via thousands of years of selective breeding..vs "ten years in a lab" - so the only way to eat non modified food would be to regress to a hunter gatherer lifestyle. That's being absurdly technical though...if you mean just lab engineered food then..yeah you're right and its been that way for at least fifty years and hasn't done any harm.

You following the Ebola outbreak? what a nightmare

By the way my argument wasn't that we shouldn't terraform earth first, of course we should. But that fixing the environment with the type of tech that goes into terraforming would run afoul of both the green movement the left, annndd the right and the religious..there'd be insane resistance because the science doesn't fit in with the "vision" of fixing the earth..that's popular in the media and yeah governments and people are that stupid

kids in Africa starved to death in the tens of thousands because the organic food movement convinced a government there to genetically modified food products would hurt them...that's the kinda silly resistance that governments apparently listen too if you just decided to do it to a rock in space.

Yep, but some form of monitoring ain't something I've an issue with at all.

sometimes yes sometimes no, for some of these other fetishes..it really is almost like a crippling addiction. I mean Snuff films are a genre for that very reason..So I'm guessing it would depend on how far gone that one person is.

Either way..given what it's preventing and that people go through life with far less?

    I am hoping counseling works

I say chemical not surgical because its not violent but removes the problem so to speak and does so without truama. I mean if a person can only sate his sex drive by breaking the law, then he kinda can do without it.

The discussion wasn't really focused on whether or not we should colonize space, but whether or not we could and should start doing it now with a planet like mars. I was more on the side of we should fix Earth before terraforming an entire planet because of the massive resources it would take to transform the entirety of mars.

Also, dat clerk. Super kawaii. Does she get tied up?

He should get counseling? maybe opt for chemical castration if he really is that close? I'm not advocating throwing these people in prison until they actually do something Dev.
