The difference is site based Genjutsu is like optical illusion, it effects what you see and only what you see which is they you are still able to funnel your down chakra, use genjutsu release and other things that require you to move, also in order for it to work the person has to see the user using it.

Sound based genjutsu effects your inner ear, which effects the part of you brain that controls you motor skills (movement) so not only does cause you to see things, but it effects your movement, it depends on how strong the genjutsu is one how much of your movement it effects. Sound based Genjutsu also does not require you to know where you opponent is since the sound alone is all that is needed so as long as the victim hears it their in it while in site based genjutsu you have to somehow make eye contact, the victim has to see something before they are caught.
