Kishimoto truly seems to underestimate girls.

The five strongest Kunoichi:

-Konan
-Mei
-Tsunade
-Shizune
-Kurenai

The five strongest Kunoichi, and yet they are nowhere even close to the strongest characters.

Konan is the closest if she gets preparation time. Without she is still the strongest of the five, but is easily overpowered by even base Jiraiya. And she is dead anyway, so I doubt she`ll be shown fighting again.
Mei, quite strong Kage, but not anywhere on top level with Killer Bee, Naruto, Pain, Madara, Itachi, Jiraiya,...
Tsunade, one of the weakest Kage, weakest Sannin, weaker than A, Mei, Onoki, and probably even Danzo, weakest Hokage as well.
Shizune, 4th strongest Kunoichi, yet even (far) weaker than Tsunade, who is weak anyway.
Kurenai, 5th strongest Kunoichi, yet her Genjutsu, was easily deflected by Itachi, and Itachi nearly killed her if it wasn`t for Kakashi.

How many of you think Kishimoto shouldn`t underestimate Kunoichi and make them equal to Male Shinobi?!! :D

Kishi sweems to be underestimating the Kunoichi of Naruto.

There is something seriosuly wrong with the way Kishi looks at female characters. Except for Tsunade, every other kunoichi has suffered from undevelopment due to not getting enough screen time. But in case of Tusande there is absolutely no excuse. She hasnt had a single power up since the time when she introduced before TS. She is currently weakest of the kages and one of the hugely under-develped characters.

I do get quite annoyed with the fact that all the females seem quite weak in Naruto, at times I just feel like slapping the book closed when it comes to a part with the ladies getting pounded, Kishi must have the belief that males should be stronger than the females, for that whole alpha male thing, so it seems that they are always the heroes to come flying in, to protect the female, it's the classic hero-like story concept which seems to be every where, in everything that you read, watch or play.

I don't really think they're weak. They don't fight as head on and agressively as Shinobi like Naruto or Sasuke. You won't see a Kunoichi attack with something like rasengan or chidori. This doesn't mean they're weak. It simply means they fight in a more stealthy manner. They aren't really meant to attack people head on and overpower them imo. They all tend to excel at one role or technique. This helps with a mission a great deal. Hinata's byakugan helps track people. Sakura and Tsunade's medic skills heal a Shinobi who fights head on. Ino's tactics can take down a person from a distance. These are all strong and helpful manners of the Kunoichi.

They're not weak, they just dont (or didnt) do impressive things. For example, Mikoto were said to be strong enough reach the level of a jonin, Kushina was the jinchuuriki of the kyuubi so she was far from weak. Women in Naruto being not mentioned as much as men are doesnt mean they are weak. (Altho some of them really suck, such as Sakura or Ino but not all).

Kurenai was almost defeated by her own student if Naruto didn't stop the student.
Shizune... barely seen her in action, we have no clue if she is really THAT strong.
Tsunade could be defeated by so many people. I don't concider her the strongest konoha female.
