The whole idea of names determining people's destiny had been dated back as the book of Genesis, when Abraham changed his name from Abram to Abraham.
Could this really be possible?
Discuss!
My response: I believe it can determine your destiny because its sort of as you're being raised as. For example, a couple decide to name their couple Angel. That child can grow up with expectations that would make him want to be good like an Angel, he would want to live up to his name. If a couple names their child "Callidus" (Which means smart as in clever in Latin) the kid might think "Oh I am clever" which would lead to confidence which would lead to him actually being clever.
*censored* no.Just because someone got a certain name don't mean squat.

It depends on the name as well though...
I've seen plenty of people named angel, including one of my cousins, and most of them act nothing like that.

A well-to-do couple named their first child Winner. The second was named Loser for a 'book-end effect". Loser was in law enforcement or law practice, can't recall exactly. Winner was always in jail. Either Loser was a sore loser, or winner couldn't take the pressure of his name.

Well destiny certainly wanted to you to be named but i don't think it determines who you are, unless it's something symbolic like Eve being the mother of all creation and such.In some cultures though they believe that sometimes another person's spirit is reborn in another so they're named after that person, works with animals probably too cause in a book I read about this girl who knew this alpha wolf and when her baby step-brother was born they 'felt' the wolf spirit in him so they gave him the wolf's name.Wether this is relavent to your question I don't know but this is the best I can come up.

Actually according to Genesis it was God who changed Abram's name
to Abraham. But really it's just another form of the same name.
Like changing Doug to Douglas. Also I don't think Abraham's destiny
changed when his name changed. I don't think Abraham was ever
destined to do anything nor is anyone else. Abraham did what
he did out of his own volition. At the same time I do think that
God knew what Abraham would do before Abraham did it.
However God did not make Abraham do what he did, Abraham did that.

All I'm saying is that is mostly depends what type of environment you are raised in. Like if you grow up with certain expectations. It's different for everyone.

I do think environment has an affect on us
but I think in the end we're are the deciders of our own fate.

Of course. People grow up in different environments and like I said before environment does have an effect. I also think that genes have an effect too.
I don't believe that these two things by themselves are what determines
a person's life. I think that people do have the freedom to make their own decisions and even if others try to threaten that freedom people can make
the choice to defend their freedom. I think that no matter the situation
you always have a choice...even if the choices available are not so great.

My name means "Chosen One" but Idk why. =/ Since I don't feel I'm really "chosen" for anything. q.q
But I think our destinies rely more on how we act and our decisions.

Eh, I believe there is some powers in a name. However to those who don't believe this, well nothing much will change, because you need to believe in order to see. If not then your kinda defying it and saying, ''Nope, its not possible.'' I geuss it depends on one's personality.
