How strong was he? Ive come to think that he was the strongest known character in the series. Maybe minato was stronger but other than him i think it's pretty obvious he was incredible.

I frankly think he was less than 10 % of his usual power when he died. i would love to know what sickness he suffered from.

Now I wouldn't go so far as to say he was the strongest, but he was one of the few who were talented. Yes of course he wasn't at his best during his fight with Sasuke, it he was and if he was trying to kill Sasuke, he would have. I kinda think that not only was he losing his sight, but also the prolonged use of his Sharingan was the cause of the disease.

I dont know who would be put as stronger. He controlled any figh he was ever seen in.

But then wouldnt madara have suffered that too?

He could have, but also remember that Madara had used his Sharingan over and over till it lost his light. Itachi had used his for over eight years, till his light was ALMOST gone, not completely.

I actually never wondered how strong he might actually be.

No no no no no! first off naruto at this point was suggested to be stronger than sasuke by madara's right hand man zetsu, Madara is well aware of both sasuke's power and Pain's, if madara doubted this i believe he would have said so.

Second of all minato was fighting both the ninetils and madara while trying to protect to helpless people and he still won. Remember minato is one of only two people known to have beaten madara in battle let alone hit him. Sasuke couldn't even do that. minato dies because of the requirements of the sealing jutsu he had to use. not because he lost.

Itachi would be on the same playing field as minato he was strong enough that madara feared him and did not think he could simply kill him to silence him.

in the end i think it would go Minato>itachi>naruto/sasuke

i think itachi is pretty strong...and was a genius at ninjutsu
he was known to learn things pretty quickly and he gained the sharingan at an early age too...
he was indeed talented

I don't know about the strongest, but he was definitely a genius and had many jutsu's at his disposal not to mention his Kekkei Genkai. I've read in some places that Itachi may have died from Tuberculosis. I don't know how accurate that is though. It's only a theory.

He was at least one of the only character who ever accomplished what he set out to do. I mean he spent his WHOLE life living a lie so his brother wouldn't kno the horrible truth of his village and could live, thats a LONG time!

I've said for a long time that Itachi was the strongest of the Akatsuki, or the current shinobi world for that matter. The only person, in my opinion, that was stronger than Itachi was Madara.

Itachi had the Mangekyo Sharingan which gave him Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo. His Susanoo had two of the three sacred treasure, the Totsuka blade and the Yata mirror. Then, during the Edo Tensei, he showed that he could use Izanami. Not only that, but he had Shisui's eyes which used Kotoamatsukami. Itachi had the most powerful attack, defense and genjutsu. Plus he was a master of both taijutsu and shurikenjutsu.

The only person who could possibly trump all that was Madara. He could use the abilities of the Mangekyo with the abilities of the Rinnengan.
