Ok so I know 49 is an old volume as far as Japanese releases go but reading through I noticed a few differences in translations that could make a difference. I will compare scanlations first and then the viz version

scanlation

Chapter 461 second page

Sasuke sees Darui and thinks...

In scanlation "This guy!"

In Viz Version "So he's the one!!"

Scanlation sounds like Sasuke is saying "This guy...is trouble" or something along those lines. Yet the Viz Version sounds like Sasuke is saying that he's realized something that he was trying to figure out before as if Darui's
attack revealed something. Perhaps it's Sasuke thinking "So he's the
one attacking".

Also...

later in the same chapter 8th page of chapter

in the scanlation Sasuke says "All of you, stop interfering"

But in Viz Sasuke says

"Hey...don't make careless remarks"

This is completely different. Sasuke tells Suigetsu this after Suigetsu
states that his execution blade got damaged and Jugo says it got
damaged before against eight tails. It sounds like Sasuke was trying
to hide the fact that he went after eight tails.

Obviously neither are more accurate. Translators dont look into it that way so I doubt it is anything promininent.

But they have different meanings.

I mean the first one I can see a similarity...

But the second one is completely different and somewhat changes the story.

Viz can fail at translation. In one volume they changed what Naruto or something said... It changed the whole mode of the volume :|

You might have a more convincing argument
if you could actually provide one.

What did Naruto say that change the whole volume?

I wasn't trying to have an argument, I was simply stating something. But let me check. But it wasn't even Naruto. So I have no clue why i said that... Idk it was in book 43 Sasuke said it. Let me check the book.

It's more the fact you don't actually say what it was and leave us hanging.

How could you be sure scanlators are any better than Viz?Nope, but Jap text, seemed to lean towards the scanlators.

Nope, but Jap text, seemed to lean towards the scanlators.

I think that's because of two things

1. Scanlators don't translate half the time and leave in things like
"Yamato Taichou" instead of the properly translated "Captain Yamato".

2. Scanlators are much more literal. Which is why they sound so clunky.
Literal translations are both good and bad. They are good because it's
the closest you can get to the original language. It's bad because the
closer you get to the original language the less sense it will make in
the translated language and the whole point of translation is so that
it will make sense in the translated language.

Viz is much less literal than scanlators so they might not be as accurate word for word, but for the most part they are much easier to read than
the typical scanlator which sounds like a rebellion against the English
language.
