......Hara takes out a kunai and attacks Ichimaru straight on. Ichimaru quickly takes out his own kunai to defend himself. When he is a meter away Hara lunges forward and at a downward left angle. Ichimaru easily dodges the attack by stepping to his left and then quickly ducks to avoid the follow up spin kick launched by his opponent. Ichimaru moves into a counter attacking stab, but Hara spins around so fast that he is able to block with his own weapon.

Then Hara drops his body low to the ground and goes for a leg sweep. Ichimaru hops over the leg and then ducks under the secondary attack. He attempts to counter with a stabbing action again, but when Hara continues his rotation to block the kunai Ichimaru switches his attack style. He goes for a heavy kick with his right leg aimed at the grass ninja’s head. Hara barely manages to duck under the kick, and afterwards he hops backwards a few paces and settles into a defensive stance.

“Looks like you either held back during your first fight, or you got a lot better during our month off,” comments Hara.

Ichimaru reveals, “You’re not the only one that was watching other people’s battles. I studied each and every one of the other combatant’s battles and fully analyzed their techniques. I may have improved, but I was able to pick apart your fighting style and come up with the perfect way to defend myself.”

Hara laughs, “Well it seems you came extremely well prepared, but so did I!”
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Wow I didn’t know that Ichimaru was that good at Taijutsu,” exclaims Sakura as she watches the battle.

“It looks like he came up with a few new tricks,” agrees Kuroda, “I am pretty impressed. I guess that is what you get when you have a Sensei like Yoshikuni Dosu.”

“What do you mean?” inquires Sakura.

“I am surprised you don’t know,” replies Kuroda, “Yoshikuni is not exactly a Taijutsu specialist, but I noticed that every time I have seen him fight he only uses his Ninjutsu as a last resort.”

“And in order to do that you have to be highly skilled at Taijutsu,” she surmises, “So he must have been focusing on training Ichimaru in that area so he could stand his ground against Hara.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
As he flips backwards Hara asks, “You may have analyzed all the techniques I used in my last fight, but what about the ones I didn’t use?” When he is about ten meters away he takes out three kunai with small pouches on them and throws them at Ichimaru.

Ichimaru thinks, “Paper bombs, damn,” and he tries to dodge them.

However Hara didn’t aim them at directly at Ichimaru. Instead they explode and scatter smoke all around him, but for some reason the explosions don’t damage him at all.

Ichimaru asks, “What exactly was that supposed to do?” but in a flash Hara is on the attack again.

While charging Hara explains, “Those kunai didn’t have paper bombs attached to them. It had my secret Golden Thunder Powder.”

Hara flings his original kunai and Ichimaru is able to easily deflect it to the side. By then Hara is already on top of the Petal ninja. He jumps into a flip and comes down with a powerful axe kick. Ichimaru steps back just enough to avoid the kick.

But as usual Hara has a secondary attack planned and this time his fist connects right in the chest. Ichimaru staggers back, but quickly gets his arms up to block a fist aimed for his face. Hara goes into a flurry of kicks and punches with the majority of them hitting right on the mark.

Ichimaru is perplexed and at first he thinks, “What? How did he get so fast all of a sudden? Wait no, that’s not it. He isn’t getting faster. I’m getting slower. That powder must be some sort of paralyzing agent designed to slow reflexes.”

Hara lands some serious blows and knocks Ichimaru against a wall of the arena. “Perfect, if I can’t defend myself with Taijutsu, then I’ll just make sure that he can’t attack me either,” thinks the Petal ninja.

Ichimaru carefully lures Hara over towards the arena wall then gets just enough separation before shouting, “All right, Shadow Paralysis Jutsu!”

Ichimaru’s shadow extends and joins with the wall’s and then reaches out and attaches to Hara’s shadow, freezing him where he stands.
Hara attempts to move his body, but is unable to.

“What? Why won’t my body move?” he asks.

“It’s my Shadow Paralysis Jutsu,” explains Ichimaru, “You can’t move a muscle, but I can make you move them,” says Ichimaru and he demonstrates this by making Hara raise his hand over his head. Hara looks around to try and figure out how the Jutsu works.

“I see, it’s the shadows,” thinks Hara, “He was drawing me nearer to the wall so he could extend his range. When I get out of this I need to pay attention to that.”

“If you’re trying to find a way to escape it’s impossible,” says Ichimaru, “As long as you are in range, you can’t move unless I want you too, or my chakra runs out. And seeing as the sun is going down, the shadows are growing even more, and my range will eventually cover more than half of the battle field.”

Hara glances up at the sun and then around the area. He thinks to himself, “He is right, but in a moment or two I will have an opening, so I had best not waste it.”

I wonder what Hara's opening is. Also, Ichimaru is resembles Shikamaru(by being a strategist), but unlike him because he's skilled in Taijutsu. Interesting chapter. I wonder who will be the winner since Hara speaks of an opening, but Ichimaru's range is increasing. I'm guessing Hara's opening has to do with the sun going down, because he thought about it as soon as Ichimaru mentioned the sun going down.

I thought about making it longer, but this was the best place for a cliffhanger in the match.

Cool chapter, I think that the opening might be the sun reflecting off of something into the arena or temporarily lighting the arena, shortening Ichimarus' range for a short amount of time.
The other thing that I can think of is that the powder that Hara used had another effect that we haven't seen yet.

I don't know if that would be possible since the sun is starting to go down.

........Ichimaru starts to concentrate, “Now that I have him, what is my next move? First I should…..Ugh what is this feeling?”

A smirk rises up on the face of his opponent. Suddenly Ichimaru starts to get dizzy and uncontrollably shakes.

Hara laughs and explains, “My Golden Thunder Powder is special. It has more than one effect. The first is the intended effect that dulls the afflicted person’s senses.” Hara starts to notice he has regained some control over the movement of his body and continues to explain, “However, the second effect is unintended and is actually done by the victims own body. The powder sinks deep into the skin. This causes the skin to get very irritated, and after a while the person’s immune system fights back by trying to physically force the powder out of the body. This has the effect of making the person’s body shake uncontrollably.”

Ichimaru’s vision is completely shot and his body convulses so much he cannot concentrate on the Jutsu. Eventually he is forced to release his Shadow Paralysis Jutsu.

With his body now back in his control Hara retreats away from Ichimaru and jumps into a nearby tree. Ichimaru’s body starts to calm down, and he tells Hara, “Big mistake! Not only did you not use my opening to attack, but also you jumped into an area where my shadows can reach.”

Hara informs Ichimaru, “I realize that, but I’m betting that my own Jutsu will be complete before yours is.”

Ichimaru realizes, “He’s going to use that leaf Jutsu he used in the last match. Only now he has a lot more projectiles. Ohh man, I better hurry up or I am finished. Come on body move!”

Ichimaru’s body is still recovering from the powder, so Hara is able to beat him to the punch. When he completes his hand seals Hara yells out, “Now have a taste of my Leaf Shuriken Jutsu!” He grabs the leaves around him and uses his chakra to make the leaves harden and sharpen into weapons.

Hara throws a barrage of the newly formed shuriken at Ichimaru; Ichimaru is forced to dodge instead of completing his Jutsu. However there are so many shuriken that Ichimaru cannot dodge them all and is hit. The leaves slash through his clothes and tear into his skin. He falls back as blood spills out of his wounds. Ichimaru tries to get up, but his injuries are too severe.

“I thought Hara was in trouble for a moment there, but this one is in the bag!” says a cute girl with short green hair as she watches from the stands.

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from Hara,” comments the dark skinned boy next to her, “Although it would have been better if he didn’t need to use that powder of his.”

“Good thing he used it when he did,” agrees Mari, “Otherwise I don’t think he would have escaped from that shadow Jutsu. It seemed to paralyze him somehow.”

“Hara would have thought of something else,” replies Kuro, “Look I think the proctor is going to call it now.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
Tatsuki sees this and determines, “Looks like he is not gonna get back up.”

“Okay I’m calling a stop to the match. The winner is Hara Gaki,” she announces.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Kuroda gets a sad look on his face, so Sakura asks him, “Is something wrong?”

He tells her, “I am just disappointed that I won’t get to fight Ichimaru, but that Grass Ninja does seem to be pretty strong. He also outwitted Ichimaru, so it should be interesting when I go up against him.”

Rino overhears their conversation and confronts Kuroda, “I wouldn’t be planning on facing that Grass Ninja if I were you, because you’re not going to make it to the next round. And underestimating me is only going to make your loss even worse.”

Kuroda retorts, “Save your speech, I don’t want to hear it. Prove yourself on the battlefield.”

Rino thinks, “You just wait; I’ll prove my strength and then some,” and then he hops over the rail and lands down on the field.

Kuroda walks to the edge and surveys the battlefield another time and then decides to take the stairs down. Sakura calls to him, “Good luck Kuroda.”

Kuroda retorts, “You shouldn’t say such foolish things Sakura. The only way I would lose is on purpose.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
On his way down Kuroda encounters Hara and says, “Watch my battle closely Grass Ninja, you’re going to need all the help you can get to prepare yourself for our match tomorrow.”

Hara says, “You have to win first.” The Petal ninja smirks and walks past.

And the grammar is excellent. It makes me wanna read even more. I'll get back to it in about a hour. Good job though, Kuroda.

.......When Hara reaches the waiting area he sees Sakura and walks over to her to have a chat. “You are on that guy’s team right?” he asks.

“Yes Kuroda and I are on the same squad,” she confirms as she stares out onto the field.

“Well then I’d like to know a few things,” says Hara.

“What makes you think I would tell you anything about him?” questions Sakura coyly.

“Oh it’s nothing to revealing that I want to know, I just want to know if he is really cocky or just confident?” says Hara.

Thinking back to a moment ago Sakura responds, “The only way Kuroda would lose is if he wanted to lose.”

Up in the VIP seats the Tsuchikage leans forward in his seat when he sees Kuroda. The Koukage asks, “Why so eager Lord Tsuchikage?”

He replies, “I am looking forward to seeing more of that Genin’s abilities. I was impressed in the preliminaries, but that match lasted less than a second, so I want to see what else he can do.”

The Koukage thinks to herself, “Kuroda, you had better not escalate the situation.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
Chiasa and Yamashita watch from seats lower in the crowd. She thinks, “I hope that bastard dies. And if he doesn’t I’ll kill him myself for what he did to Naga.”

Yamashita looks over at her seeming to read her mind and comments, “Relax sensei, he’s not stupid enough to pull something like that again.”

“That isn’t why I am stressed Yamashita,” she retorts.

“Is there something you are not telling me then?” he questions.

“You are awfully talkative today, is there any reason for that?” she counters.

Kayo is standing in a group with some other Petal Ninja that are watching the matches. As she watches her student walk onto the field she thinks, “I hope you don’t do anything foolish Kuroda. Or it could be big trouble for all of us.”

“Don’t worry, he will be fine,” reassures Tousen as he walks up next to her, “My Shun didn’t forfeit the match on a whim.”

“Why did he forfeit?” asks Yoshikuni who is sitting below them.

Tousen ruffles his hair, “Well I don’t really want to reveal his secrets, but he had a good reason.”

“Well it would have been pretty irresponsible as his teacher to let him pull out if he didn’t have a good reason,” comments Yoshikuni Dosu suddenly appearing next to them.

“Despite what Naoko and Rame Tsu might tell you, I am not completely incompetent,” replies Tousen.

“I am more than aware of that old friend,” says Yoshikuni.

“So what do you think about that last match?” inquires Kayo.

“Ichimaru did well enough,” says Yoshikuni, “There is only so much you can do to prepare for a match like this. But I am confident he will grow from this experience.”

“So Kayo how does it feel to be the only Petal Jonin with students left in the competition?” asks Tousen.

“Very stressful,” she admits.

“Why do you think Kuroda will lose?” inquires Yoshikuni.

“I’m not worried about him losing,” says Kayo, “I’m worried about the method he will use to win.”

“That Hari Gaki was impressive,” comments a wealthy noble dressed in gold and blue as he awaits the next fight.

“I told you he was good,” responds another noble dressed in purple, “Now which one of them is it?”

“What do you mean?” asks the first noble.

“You said earlier that one of the ninjas in the last match was rumored to be better than Hara,” reminds the purple clad noble, “So which one is it?”

“I told you I wasn’t sure,” replies the man, “Why not try asking one of these nice Rock ninja.”

“I guess it is time that I actually start paying attention,” comments Mazuma Shiranui.

“Don’t try and fool us Grass ninja,” comments Chiaki, “You may have been pretending to spy on those two women over there, but you were making detailed reports about everything that has occurred in the matches so far.”

Mazuma smirks, “I guess I should have known better than to try and fool someone of your skill.”

Kuroda approaches the middle of the field and Tatsuki suddenly starts to get Goosebumps. “This feeling, I’m getting it again, just like the last time. What is it about this guy?” she thinks while starting to take a defensive position, “I’d better be ready for anything.”

“That’s it; take as much time as you want. It won’t matter, because I’m not going to lose to you,” softly whispers Rino.

“That’s right; I am proctor of the match,” Tatsuki reminds herself, “I need to keep my cool, but also I won’t let another person die. Not on my watch.”

When Kuroda finally reaches the center Rino comments, “Look who finally made it. You were going so slow I thought I would die by the time you got here. That arrogant attitude of yours is really pissing me off.”

Kuroda retorts, “You keep acting like you are so much stronger then everyone else. Well now is your chance to prove it.”

Rino replies, “Don’t you worry. I will show everyone that I am stronger than anyone from one of the five great villages. I will prove that just because I am from a smaller village doesn’t mean I can’t defeat anyone I face.”

Tatsuki informs them, “Hey both of you! The match has started all ready, so get to it!”

Rino mutters, “When did you ever say the match started?” but he quickly focuses on Kuroda instead of worrying about it. Rino back flips away to put some distance between then, then removes one of the umbrellas from his back and throws it into the air.

.....Kuroda taunts, “I have already seen that Jutsu many times. You Rain Ninja should learn some new tricks.”

Rino is angered and yells, “Shut up and take some of this: Rain of Needles,” tons of poison tipped needles shoot out from the umbrella. They curve around and join together and then shower down right over Kuroda.

Kuroda is able to easily dodge the first wave, but Rino relentlessly sends wave after wave of needles after him. Getting annoyed of having to dodge so much, Kuroda remembers there is a small pond on the field so he runs over to the pond and dives in.

Rino thinks, “So you are using the pond as cover so my needles won’t hit you. Well then I will just wait for you to come up for a breath of air. After all, you can’t hold your breath forever.” While maintaining his distance he maneuvers his umbrella to float over the pond.

Unexpectedly Kuroda jumps out of the water and focuses his chakra on the soles of his feet to land on top of the water. Then he uses his Ice Weapons Jutsu. Water jumps up into his hand and then forms into the shape of a staff before freezing solid. Rino is caught off guard by the speed of the Jutsu and misses his chance to attack.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Up in the stands the Tsuchikage comments, “How peculiar! It is unusual for a Petal Ninja to know techniques which are commonly used by the ninja of The Village Hidden Among the Snow.” Michiyo adjusts her uncomfortable sitting position.

She wonders to herself, “Where the hell did Kuroda learn that Jutsu? Wait a moment; I recall he once went on a mission to the Snow Country. He must have picked it up when he was there.” The crowd goes silent, eager to watch the new development.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Rino attacks with his Rain of Needles again, but now Kuroda simply deflects the attack by twirling his staff in a circular motion.

“Damn, I was not expecting him to know an ice based Jutsu,” thinks Rino as he tries to come up with a plan, “It is rare to see a Petal ninja with that kind of Jutsu. I am really at a disadvantage because he didn’t use any Jutsu in the preliminaries."

Quickly, Kuroda uses his amazing speed to dart forward and get close to Rino to start his offensive. Rino has little time to react, but is able to take out his second umbrella and block Kuroda’s spear jab. Rino then begins to use his umbrella as a sword, making it more deadly because of the sharp point at the top.

He wields it with great authority, swinging back and forth easily even though it is shaped oddly for a bladed weapon. But Kuroda also knows how to use his weapon to its greatest potential. Rino tries to push forward however he is barely able to defend himself against Kuroda’s superior close combat fighting. Rino pops the umbrella open and surprises his opponent with another Rain of Needles barrage at a point blank range. This gives him the distraction he needs to use his Mist Servant Technique.

After dealing with the needles Kuroda instantly recognizes the new technique from having faced it before. The mist spreads across the field and copies of the elder Rain ninja emerge. “I see, he’s probably going to use the same tactics as his sister used. But he is a lot stronger and smarter, so I won’t be able to deal with it the same way Sakura did. If I had the Byakugan it would be easy to spot where he is,” thinks Kuroda.

A flurry of kunai knives comes at Kuroda, but he easily uses his staff to deflect them. Two of Kuroda’s Shadow Clones suddenly jump out of the pond.

“What? When did he make those clones? I didn’t see him use any hand signs,” thinks Rino as he hides.
__________________________________________________ ___________
“Woah this battle is getting pretty intense,” exclaims Tousen, “That Rain ninja is pretty inventive and Kuroda is a lot more strategic with the use of his Shadow Clones than he was before.”

“Yes he has improved vastly,” adds Yoshikuni. Kayo does not respond, she just watches and waits for Kuroda to do something that she will regret.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“He can use shadow clones,” realizes Chiasa, “Hey Yamashita do you think that that is what he was doing in the forest?”

“I guess it is possible,” admits her student, “But I really don’t see how he would have accomplished that.”

“Maybe he combined it with Genjutsu,” she suggests.

“Again it is possible,” says Yamashita, “But it would have had to have been a very high level Genjutsu otherwise I would have recognized it.”

“Well his mentor is Kayo Yuhi,” says Chiasa, “And she is a Petal ninja that specializes in Genjutsu.”

It was pretty good. I was expecting the fight to be ended in this chapter, but it seems short. I found one mistake.

He wields it with great authority, swinging back and force easily even though it is shaped oddly for a bladed weapon.

I think you meant to say "forth".

.......One of the clones immediately uses hand signs; the water from the pond jumps up into its hands and forms into a giant hammer before freezing solid.

“What? He can form it into different objects?” shout the mist servants in unison.

“It is called the Ice Weapons Jutsu,” says the original Kuroda condescendingly before doing a series of back hand springs, “It would be a pretty dumb name if I could only form one type of weapon.”

Rino fires his needles to try and prevent Kuroda from joining his clones, but the one with the hammer smashes them out of the air.

The original positions himself behind the clones and slouches while lazily holding his pole over his shoulder. Then the second clone bends down on one knee and puts his hands together. The clone with the hammer backs up a bit then runs toward his partner, he steps on his hands and then is launched high into the air.

“What are they doing?” thinks Rino as he watches the strange move from his hiding spot within his battalion of fog clones.

The first clone lifts his hammer behind his back to and extreme angle, and then while he falls back towards the pond he swings down and slams the hammer into the pond with tremendous force.

This creates a giant wave of water that floods the battlefield. The wave crashes into Rino’s Mist Servants. All of them are immediately destroyed when the water comes into contact with them. The real Kuroda watches from behind his clones and notices, “So there are four left. One of them might be the real one, but it’s doubtful. It is most likely they are all a different type of clone.”

“Damn that was a good move, but it is not over yet,” thinks Rino.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Well now that was an interesting move,” comments Tousen.

“A great strategy,” agrees Yoshikuni, “He destroyed the majority of those clones while only using a minimal amount of chakra.”

“Yeah, but it looks like that wave isn’t going to cut it against that Jutsu,” replies Tousen.

“He wasn’t trying to destroy the clones,” interjects Kayo.

“What do you mean?” inquires Tousen.

“Kuroda has already seen that Jutsu a number of times and he knows exactly how it works. His real objective was to find the location of the original.”

“He is already ten steps ahead, reminds me of how Ichimaru thinks,” comments Yoshikuni.
__________________________________________________ ____________
The mist servants then quickly start to regenerate their bodies. However, before they completely conceal the four different copies Kuroda memorizes where they are standing and starts to attack the different locations. He rushes at the closest one, using his superior speed to attack.

It has no time to react, “Gotcha,” says Kuroda as he stabs it through the chest with his ice pole that has gained a spearhead on the end. The copy turns into a puddle of water and splashes on to the ground.

“A Water Clone very clever,” comments Kuroda.

Rino laughs and taunts his enemy while darting around him moving between his servants, “That was a good move you just pulled with your clones at the pond, but now I have you trapped!”

Two more umbrellas zoom up into the sky and hundreds of poison tipped needles shower down towards the area Kuroda is in.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Damn that is a lot of needles,” comments Yamashita, “That rain ninja is very skilled. Not only is he using three jutsu simultaneously, but his accuracy is still spot on.”

“He will be a dangerous opponent in the final round,” agrees Chiasa, “If he can make it past Hara of the Hidden Grass.”

“Not only is he a deadly fighter, but he must have a large amount of chakra if he is throwing this much out in the battle,” says Yamashita.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Did I get him?” asks Rino, but then he sees a small boulder in the place where Kuroda should be, “Substitution, damn you,” he curses.

“That was a pretty good idea, but now you have given away the position of your other clones,” yells Kuroda, “I anticipated you would move them after I took out the first one, but now they are mine."

Then Kuroda’s Shadow Clones quickly leap into the ranks of the mist servants. They seperatly attack and destroy the other two Water Clones Rino created with the use of the ice hammer and a kunai.

“No, this cannot be happening!” screams Rino as he goes into a panic, “Wait I can still win. I’ll just rid of those two clones and then I have him. Take this: Rain of Needles."

More needles stream out of the umbrellas, this time bombarding the entire area that the mist servants are covering. The original Kuroda has already made his way out of range so he is safe from the attack. The two clones sprint so fast to dodge tiny weapons, it seems like they actually vanish.

The clones determine Rino’s location based on his screaming. One of them appears in front of him, and does a jumping spin kick. Rino ducks backwards to dodge, but the other clone appears in front of him and swipes his legs from underneath him. Then the first clone turns in mid-air and does an axe kick to Rino’s gut, slamming him hard against the ground. This forces the rain ninja to lose his concentration and the mist servants evaporate into nothingness. The scene is now exposed for all of the audience to see.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Did you see what happened sensei?” inquires Yamashita.

“No, the fighting was too obscured by those clones,” she replies, “But whatever happened it happened fast.”

“I wonder if he used his special technique?” thinks Yamashita.
__________________________________________________ ____________
While Rino struggles to his feet coughing. One of the clones says to him, “You shouldn’t have given away your position, you might have lasted a bit longer if you hadn’t.”

“It’s not over, I still have another trick up my sleeve,” retorts Rino as he starts to do hand signs, preparing for another Jutsu.

The real Kuroda bursts up from the ground beneath Rino, grabs him by his ankles, and pulls him under. “Headhunter Jutsu,” says Kuroda as he traps Rino’s entire body, up to the neck, underground. All three copies of Kuroda hold a kunai up to Rino’s neck.

Kuroda reveals, “You should have looked at the rock I used for my Substitution Jutsu more closely. I dug a tunnel right underneath it and waited until you revealed your position.”

Rino struggles to get out of the trap but is unable to and yells, “Damn you, once I get out of here!”

“That’s unlikely,” says Kuroda calmly. Kuroda presses the kunai to Rino’s neck and then turns his head over towards the proctor. He tells her, “I suggest that you call the match unless you want me to kill another opponent while you just stand still looking dumb.”

At first she is stunned, but Tatsuki quickly regains her composure and sticks her hand in the air, “The winner of the match is Kuroda Taishi.”

Kuroda stores his kunai away and then grabs the cloth on Rino’s neck and gives a hard tug to pull him out of the ground. As he stifles a yawn the two clones beside him disappear leaving a puff of smoke behind.

Kuroda looks at Rino who is wearing the look of failure on his face. He speaks softly, “Don’t be disappointed with yourself. You are a very capable ninja, even better then many of the Petal Genin, but your reasons for seeking strength are wrong. Instead of gaining strength to prove that someone from a smaller village can be powerful as well, you should become strong to protect the ones that you care about, like your siblings. You should also want them to become stronger too, so share your knowledge of Jutsu and strategy with them. Not everyone can become strong on their own, most people need support.”

Rino seems to take Kuroda’s words very seriously and thinks to himself, “Have I been wrong all this time? Is that the true way to become powerful? To protect the ones I care about? You Kuroda Taishi must have ones you deeply care about, for your strength is astounding. Even after our match you have barely broken a sweat, and I don’t even see a scratch on you. I will take the advice you have given me and use them to become stronger.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
With the match over Hara asks Sakura, “Why did he take so long to win the match? It seems like he could have beaten him much sooner if he had wanted to.”

Sakura replies, “I have no idea why Kuroda does the things he does, but I do know that every action he takes serves to bring him closer to his goal.”

Hara asks, “His goal? And what would that be?”

Sakura says, “Truthfully I have no idea what it is, but I will give my life to help him accomplish it.” Hara mulls over this statement.

.........“Well now I think we know who our mystery Genin is,” comments an attendant to his feudal lord.

“Yes it seems he is Kuroda Taishi from the Hidden Petal Village,” replies the lord wearing gold and blue.

“How convenient, the next match will be between the powerhouses,” says a feudal lord in purple garments.

“I beg to differ,” says the first noble.

“What you think the girls are stronger?” inquires the second.

“No, I meant that their battle won’t be decided by power, but by who has the sharper mind,” explains the first.

His counterpart nods and asks, “I see, well then would you care to make a wager on the victor?”
__________________________________________________ ____________
“An impressive victory,” comments Masato Ishimaru from his throne that looks over the stadium, “What is the matter Lady Koukage you don’t look very happy that your Genin just won his match?”

“I’m not happy, I am irritated,” replies Michiyo Katonae.

“And why is that?” he inquires.

“I would rather not say,” she responds politely, “It is private matter for the Hidden Petal, you understand.”

“Indeed I do,” he says, “But I hope it doesn’t affect the tournament in any way. I will be looking forward to that boy’s next match. He is a very promising candidate.”

“Don’t worry I will make sure that he is here to entertain all of the guests,” she says.

The Tsuchikage then stands up and taps his throat to make his voice boom loud across the arena for everyone to hear. He announces, “This concludes the first round of the third stage of the Chunin Exams. The semifinal rounds will be held tomorrow and final match on the day after that. Thank you all for attending, and enjoy the festivities!”
__________________________________________________ ____________
People begin to file out of the stadium and Sakura jumps down to the battlefield and runs over to Kuroda to congratulate him.
__________________________________________________ ____________
As the crowd moves out Yui falls back onto the bench with a sigh of relief, “Well at least two people from the village got through the round.”

“Yeah, it is too bad everyone didn’t win,” comments Kenta, “It could have been an all Petal Village final.”

“True, but I think Ichimaru losing his fight was actually a good thing,” she says.

“What? How could losing be a good thing?” he inquires.

“Well if he did win then he would have had to go up against Kuroda. That wouldn’t be good at all, because he would be at a big disadvantage,” she replies.

“What makes you think that?” asks Kenta.

“Ichimaru’s greatest strength is his intelligence and his ability to come up with strategies,” she explains, “But if there is anyone of the Petal Genin that could compete with him in that area it would be Kuroda. I don’t know how well you remember the academy days, but Kuroda and Ichimaru always had the best scores on the written exams. And after what we just watched it is obvious Kuroda would have a physical advantage just like Hara did.”

“Yeah, I see what you are saying,” admits Kenta.

“But there is another factor as well,” states Yui, “Kuroda is Ichimaru’s best friend and they have been for a long time. As long as I have known them I have never even once seen or heard about them having a serious disagreement or fight. How would you feel if you had to fight your best friend?”

“Well when you put it that way it does seem good that they won’t have to fight,” he responds.
__________________________________________________ ____________
In another section of the stands most of the people are still in their seats discussing the matches. Yet only three members of the section seemed to have picked up on something. “Well now that was pretty entertaining,” comments Kenji seeming genuinely interested in something besides the woman sitting next to him. “

You always have a knack for using the wrong words,” says Chiaki, “I’d say it was more revealing than entertaining.”

“Can’t it be both?” he jokes.

“It certainly can,” agrees Mazuma still sitting a row below them.

“Please don’t encourage him,” sighs Chiaki.

“But in all seriousness did anyone feel that something was off while watching the match?” asks Kenji.

“So you noticed it too?” she responds.

“Me as well, I can’t exactly place my finger on it but there was something odd about the way Kuroda was fighting,” says Mazuma.

“It was almost like Kuroda already knew he was going to win the fight,” she says.

“Yeah, but it wasn’t just confidence,” notes Kenji, “At certain points it was like Kuroda could see the moves the rain ninja was going to use before he even made them.”

“No, that is not it,” disagrees Mazuma, “It was more like he had a plan lying in wait for any possible move that his opponent could make.”

“That is an interesting analysis,” comments Chiaki.

“So what is the next move for you?” asks Kenji.

“Well right now I have to focus on preparing my student for his match,” he replies.

“Are you going to be doing any more investigation?” asks Chiaki.

“There is already a team on it at this very moment. As I am sure you have your own team still looking for information,” replies Mazuma.

“So if you find anything will you be willing to share it with us?” asks Kenji.

“Well now that all depends on what you have to offer,” says Mazuma as he stands to leave, “Remember it is called information exchange.” The Grass Jonin slips into the crowd and vanishes into the pack of people. A second later a group of men pass by Kenji and Chiaki and when they get by the seats are bare.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Rame Tsu and Naoko slide into the one of the groups of people exiting the arena. They skillfully weave their way through the horde and actually end up being some of the first people to get outside. They are looking around trying to think of what they should do for the rest of the day when they spot the third member of their team leaned up against a tree.

They nervously walk over to speak with him. “Hey Shun, we umm…didn’t know if you were going to stick around or not,” says Naoko.

“I wouldn’t waste an opportunity to gather info on strong ninja,” he says sourly.

“So then I guess that means you watched the final match,” comments Rame Tsu.

“Of course I did,” he replies angrily as his hand forms into a fist.

“Kuroda has become strong,” says Naoko, “Really strong.”

“He took on that Rain Ninja and wasn’t even fazed by any of his attacks,” adds Rame Tsu.

“You two don’t even know the half of it,” states Shun.

“What do you mean?” inquires Naoko.

“Kuroda wasn’t fighting that guy,” reveals Shun as he grits his teeth, “He was just toying with him. Just testing to see how strong he was. If I would have fought him the same exact thing would have happened.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
Tatsuki watches with contempt as Kuroda and Sakura walk out. She looks down at her right hand, which is shaking, and asks herself, “What is going on? Every time I am near that kid I get this feeling. There is just something about him that gets underneath my skin. Even now while he is walking away I can still feel it.”

Suddenly a gigantic man drops down from the sky; the ground shakes as he lands on the ground behind her. “Hello Kuma,” she says relaxing a bit.

“How did you know it was me Tatsuki?” he asks.

“I sensed your chakra approaching, plus I don’t think anyone else could make that kind of entrance,” she responds. Still staring at Kuroda, she looks at her hand shaking again and grabs it to make it stop.

“Yeah, I guess I could never sneak up on you,” he laughs,

“Something wrong Tatsuki?”

“No, nothing,” she replies. All of a sudden he picks her up with a single hand and places her on his large and roomy shoulder.

“Good, then let’s go get something to eat. How about some Ramen?” he asks.

“Even if I say I’m not hungry it’s not like it is going to stop you from dragging me with you,” she thinks to herself while relaxing and forgetting about Kuroda.

“Fine, let’s go then,” she sighs.

“Yes,” Kuma yells in a joyous manor, “I’m really hungry after watching all that fighting,” he steps forward and heads towards the nearest restaurant.
__________________________________________________ ____________
When Sakura and Kuroda exit the stadium through one of the side entrances the Koukage’s carriage pulls out in front of them. Raj jumps in front of them and says, “Kuroda Taishi, the Koukage wishes to speak with you alone. Sakura please make your way back to your hotel and get a full nights rest for your match tomorrow.”

“Again, wasn’t one time today enough?” complains Kuroda.

“You had a private meeting with the Koukage?” inquires Sakura.

“It is not important,” says Kuroda.

“Oh, okay,” she says.

“You should head on back to the hotel like Raj said. Kayo-sensei will probably be there soon and you can review your strategy for tomorrows match with her,” suggests Kuroda.

“Yeah, okay I’ll see you later then,” says Sakura as she waves goodbye and heads off. Next Kuroda walks by Raj and up to the carriage.

Kuroda knocks on the carriage door and slips inside when it opens. The Koukage is sitting inside with a pleased look on her face. The carriage lurches forward and starts to move as Kuroda sits down. “Congratulations Kuroda, your victory was very impressive. You have made the Petal Village proud and shown our strength to all the important nobles that attended,” pronounces the Koukage.

Kuroda lazily rests his elbow on his knee and puts his chin in his palm then replies, “It would have been even better if all four of us had made it into the next round.”

The Koukage says, “I agree, but still for us to have even one person to make it this far is good and we managed two.”

“Yeah, but I really was looking forward to fighting Ichimaru,” comments Kuroda.

The Koukage raises her eyebrow surprised by the statement, but doesn’t inquire about it. “Now I have a few questions for you. The first of them being that I want to know where exactly you learned those ice techniques that you were using,” she says.

Kuroda explains, “I received training from an Ice ninja while I was on a mission in the Snow Country, she also aided me and Sakura when we went into the freezing cold ocean.”

The Koukage replies, “Yes I remember reading the report from that mission. Very well, that’s all I really wanted to know for now.”

“I thought you said you had a few questions?” he asks.

“Yes well they can wait until another time. I have more important matters to attend to,” she remarks. The carriage comes to a halt and the Koukage says, “We have arrived back at your hotel, you are excused. Don’t stay up to late; I want you to have a full nights rest for your match tomorrow.”

Kuroda steps out of the carriage and heads straight up to the hotel room to check on Sakura and Kayo.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Late that night, deep in the combines of the Hidden Rock Village, two youths come across each other in a secret hallway. “What are you doing here?” asks the shorter female.

“Looking for you obviously,” replies the other person.

“What do you need me for Yamashita?” inquires the girl.

“I’m following orders remember?” says Yamashita.

“Oh yeah sorry, my mind was elsewhere,” responds Hoshi.

“We should move out of this hallway and go somewhere more private,” suggests Yamashita.

“Right, follow me,” she says turning to lead him, “There is a study room close by that we should be able to use.” They walk through the twists and turns of the underground labyrinth until Hoshi opens up a hidden door and they enter into a small yet comfortable room.

“So what did your father say?” asks Yamashita as he takes a seat in a wooden chair.

“What do you mean?” she replies as she takes the chair opposite him.

“Well didn’t he call you in to speak with you about today’s match?” he asked.

“No I haven’t spoken to him since this morning,” she reveals.

“That is odd,” comments Yamashita, “I don’t pretend to know the Tsuchikage very well, but I would have thought he at least would have wanted to review your match. But I guess he felt it wasn’t needed.”

“My father doesn’t like to waste time talking about things that have already been settled,” says Hoshi.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” he replies, “Now then we need to talk about your strategy for tomorrow. We didn’t know who you would go up against, so during training we just had you preparing for a general long range fighter. However now that we know you are fighting Sakura things are different.”

“Why is that?” she inquires.

“Because Sakura is not a long range fighter, her butterfly allies are the long range fighters,” explains Yamashita.

“I don’t understand what you mean,” states Hoshi.

“Normally I would say that Sakura is a short to mid-range fighter. But once she summons one of her smaller butterflies she becomes a medium to long range fighter. Then of course if she can get the giant butterfly out she will jump on top and become a long range fighter,” he explains.

“I see what you are saying,” says Hoshi.

“So the key to your victory is not letting her get a chance to use her summoning Jutsu. If she does then your chances of winning significantly decrease. Now other than her clone Jutsu we don’t really know what kind of close range jutsu she has so it will be a bit of a risk, but I am confident that your Taijutsu skills will be able to handle it,” he says.

“Okay so what should my first move be?” asks Hoshi.

Kuroda Taishi
05-05-2010, 05:51 PM
.....Kuroda wakes up early in the morning and decides to slowly make his way to the stadium on his own. Today he is chosen to stray from his usual attire. His black shirt now has a large t-shaped red stripe on the front and back. He dons shorts instead of pants and these have a red stripe going down the sides. His legs are now covered in white bandages. Lastly he has switched out his normal blue headband for a black one. He exits the hotel and slips his hands into his pockets before walking off in a random direction.

As usual he is closely tailed by a trio of Rock Ninja, but he chooses to not waist his time loosing them today. He travels through the mostly barren streets of the still awakening village. He peers into the windows of some unopened stores. A few of the villagers recognize him and give a polite nod or wave. However all of the Rock ninja he comes across shy away from his presence. He rounds a corner and starts towards the arena. As he goes he starts thinking about his plans for the day.

“Well now I guess I should make a decision before I get to the stadium,” he thinks, “On the one hand I don’t want to expose my abilities to the world just yet, but on the other hand I am pretty bored with this village. I want to return to the Petal Village because at this point and time there is really nothing else that I need to do here. Additionally I really want to piss off the Tsuchikage some more. He is so easily startled; it is really surprising given his reputation. Yet I also don’t want to anger the Koukage too much or else she might decide to limit my movements again. So then I will have to find a nice balance between the two. Today is going to be a very interesting day.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
By the time he arrives the entrances are already starting to let people in. Kuroda gets inside and then heads towards the stairs that lead to the fighter’s viewing area. “Excuse me young Petal ninja may I have a moment of your time?” calls a voice from behind him. He turns around to see a wealthy looking middle aged man garbed in gold and blue.

“Why of course my lord,” he replies, “The matches won’t start for a while so I have some free time.”

“I see you have a keen eye, just as I expected,” replies the noble.

“I try to keep it sharpened,” says Kuroda, “So what is it you wish to speak of?”

“My friend and I enjoyed your performance yesterday and decided to make a wager on today’s matches,” explains the noble, “I was wondering if you could advise me on the chances of your victory.”

“I myself am not one to gamble. I like to stick to facts and calculations,” responds Kuroda.

“Ahh I see, a very good philosophy. Well thanks anyways for the chat,” replies the noble as he turns to leave.

“But if you want to know my honest opinion my lord I would say that the Petal Village is going to have a very good day today,” calls Kuroda quietly.
The noble walks off quietly with a large grin on his face.

“He may be useful to me in the future,” thinks Kuroda as he continues towards the stairs. He makes his way up to the waiting area and finds Hara and Hoshi already there. Hara looks over and inquires, “Where is your teammate? Her match is before ours.”

“I came here on my own, but she should arrive soon,” replies Kuroda as he walks over to the rail and leans his elbows on it.

“I hope she will,” says Hara, “because I am looking forward to her match with Hoshi.”

Kuroda asks, “Why are you so concerned with her match, other than wanting to scout her some more?”

“What makes you think I want to do anything other than scout her?” counters Hara.

“Don’t try to play me Grass ninja. Your village excels at information gathering, and I’ve noticed you have better eyes than the rest of your team members. By now you have fully analyzed all of Sakura’s capabilities. I’m sure you want to verify your findings by having a third observation, but what are your real motives?”

“It seems your analytical abilities are just as good as mine,” admits Hara.

“That didn’t answer my question,” points out Kuroda.

Hara answers, “Your teammate can summon that giant creature; it is an extremely powerful Jutsu. On the other hand Hoshi also has some powerful Jutsu, and she is the top ranked Genin in the Hidden Rock Village. It should make for a very exciting match. The Hidden Grass Village doesn’t just go out and gather information; we enjoy seeing two powerful forces collide just as much as anyone else does.”

“I see,” comments Kuroda. Hoshi says nothing to Hara’s comments, but when Kuroda looks over at her she backs away into a corner.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Nobody says anything for a while; they just watch the spectators file into the stadium. Kuroda sees Tatsuki the exam proctor appear in the center of the battlefield. “She must know the Body Flicker Technique,” he assumes. Hoshi also sees her, and immediately exits the room. The crowd starts to settle down as the Tsuchikage and the Koukage arrive and take their seats up on the highest level. Kuroda then sees Sakura enter the arena and on the opposite side Hoshi comes out from the stairway and makes her way to the center.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Are we ready to get going then?” inquires the Koukage.

“Yes I think all the important guests have made their way inside,” replies Masato.

“And all the competitors are here,” adds Michiyo.

The Tsuchikage stands up and gives an opening speech, “Welcome back everyone to the second day of the Chunin exams. Judging by yesterday’s performances I expect we will have some very exciting matches today and even more so considering that none of the winners suffered any significant injuries. Good luck to all competitors!”
__________________________________________________ ____________
The majority of the Petal Village ninja seem to be clustered in one section of the seating area. “Where is Shun?” inquires Yui who is sitting between Kenta and Naoko, “Doesn’t he want to see the fight?”

“I’m sure he is around here somewhere,” replies Naoko.

“He watched the fights yesterday on his own as well,” adds Rame Tsu.

“Well that is dumb, he should sit with the rest of us and help cheer on Sakura and Kuroda,” replies Yui.

“Shun needs some time on his own to mull things over,” says Tousen from behind where he is sitting with the other Jonin-sensei.

“Is Ichimaru going to be in the hospital for a while?” asks Jando who is in the seat to the far left.

Kenta who is beside him replies, “He actually is in pretty good shape considering that attack he got hit by. The medical ninja want to keep him in there for a few days just to make sure though.”

“Better safe than sorry,” comments Yoshikuni.

“I concur,” says Tousen.

“So Kayo do you think that Sakura will win the fight?” asks Yoshikuni.

“I don’t know what kind of tricks the Tsuchikage has taught his daughter, but I have confidence in Sakura. She has come a long way since she came under my tutelage. She won’t go down easily,” replies Kayo.

“Yeah let’s go Sakura!” cheers Yui.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“We are late again Yamashita,” complains Chaisa as she enters into the seating area.

“Don’t blame me sensei,” he replies.

“What do you mean don’t blame you?” she retorts, “If it wasn’t for your obsession with a certain cute green haired girl then we might actually have a decent place to sit once in a while.”

“It is rude not to help a lady in need of assistance,” responds Yamashita.

“Excuse me are you not Chiasa Inuzu the teacher of young Hoshi Ishimaru?” inquires a male voice from behind them. They turn around to look and see a noble man dressed in purple.

Chiasa replies, “Why yes I am.”

“Well in that case I believe I have perfect place for you to sit,” he says, “Follow me.” He leads them over to a spot with a perfect view of the entire arena. They sit down next to another wealthy noble covered in gold and blue.

“Well now, how did you manage to secure such an interesting guest?” inquires the second noble.

“It appears I am not the only one who has trouble arriving on time,” chuckles the purple clad noble, “Now then, before this match gets started is our wager still on?”

“Most certainly,” assures the second noble, “I am most confident the Petal Ninja will secure victory in both matches.

“We shall see my friend, we shall see,” replies the first noble.

“Excuse me my lord,” says Chiasa, “But I think you are underestimating the talent of the Tsuchikage’s daughter.”

“Well I am certain that as her instructor you would be the one to know Miss Inuzu,” says the blue and gold clad noble, “However I have acquired information from a very reliable source that today will be a very good day for the Petal Village.”
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Well now this is strange. I got the feeling that you two didn’t exactly enjoy being in each other’s company,” says Mazuma as he joins two Rock ninja standing at the back upper railing.

“Orders are orders regardless of feelings,” replies Chiaki blandly.

“What makes you think she doesn’t like me?” questions Kenji.

“Give it a rest Kenji,” warns Chiaki, “I’m really not in the mood today.”

“You are an odd couple,” says Mazuma quietly.
__________________________________________________ ____________
The Tsuchikage gives a signal to Tatsuki and she motions towards Sakura and Hoshi to get ready.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Right as she is about to start the match Kuroda yells, “Wait!”
__________________________________________________ ____________
Everyone in the stadium is very confused and wants to know what is going on.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“What do you want? Your match is the one after this one,” yells Tatsuki.

Kuroda replies, “I have a message for Sakura before the match begins.”

“Well spit it out then,” replies Tatsuki.

“Sakura, I want you to forfeit the match,” he orders.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Everyone in the crowd is stunned. “Lady Katonae what is the meaning of this?” asks the Tsuchikage in a calm but angry voice.

“I have no idea,” she says, “I did not order this.”

Internally the Koukage is furious, “What the hell is going on Kuroda?” she thinks.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Tousen inquires, “Kayo what is…?” But before he can finish his question Kayo uses her Body Flicker Technique to appear right next to Kuroda.

She starts yelling at him, “Kuroda what do you think you are doing? Why are you telling her to forfeit?” Hara watches silently from across the room also interested in what is going on.

Kuroda says, “This is none of your concern Sensei; go back to your seat now!”

Kayo starts to argue, “Go back to my seat? What… ahhh.” the surging pain envelopes her whole body, causing her to collapse on the ground. “Damn you,” she swears under her breath with menacing eyes, but she quickly uses her Body Flicker Technique to return to her seat.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“You’re back already what is going on Kayo?” asks Yoshikuni.

“I don’t know,” she replies angrily.

“Well what did you talk about with Kuroda?” inquires Tousen.

“It doesn’t matter,” she responds.

“Why is everyone up in a fuss? It is not like Sakura is just going to forfeit just because Kuroda told her to,” comments Naoko.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Back in the competitor’s viewing area Hara is astonished and wonders, “I have never spoken to my Sensei in that way, but what is more curious is that she actually obeyed his orders with no apparent objections. What is going on?”
__________________________________________________ ____________
Down on the field Sakura turns to Hoshi and says, “I pity you.”

Hoshi questions, “Pity me? Why?”

Sakura explains, “Well if we would have had our match it probably would have been a good one and we both might have made our villages look strong, but now you no longer have that opportunity.”

“I assume that means you are going to forfeit, so why am I being pitied?” asks Hoshi.

Sakura replies, “If you had paid any attention to Kuroda’s earlier matches you would know that he wasn’t even trying against any of his opponents, and he humiliated them. I don’t know why he doesn’t want me to fight, but I suspect he has something special planned for you later.” Then Sakura turns to Tatsuki and announces, “I am forfeiting the match.”

“Are you sure?” asks Tatsuki scratching her head. Sakura gives a nod, and then starts to walk off the field.

“Okay, if you say so,” Tatsuki says and then officially declares, “By the method of forfeit the winner of this match is Hoshi Ishimaru. Will the next two competitors please come down to the battlefield.” The crowd is angry and starts to break out into arguments about how they did not get to see a highly anticipated match.
__________________________________________________ ____________
The Tsuchikage leans over and asks the Koukage, “Are you sure this wasn’t your doing Lady Koukage?”

“No I had no prior knowledge of it and certainly did not approve of it,” she says sternly.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“Woah she actually did it!” exclaims Kenta.

“What the hell is she thinking?” asks Yui, “She is wasting a perfectly good opportunity!”

“This pisses me off,” states Rame Tsu, “Why did Kuroda ask her to do that?”

“I want to know why she is even listening to him,” says Naoko, “She is wasting a great chance to fight one of the strongest Genin around. What the hell is she thinking?”

“Hey Kayo, Sakura isn’t in love with Kuroda is she?” asks Tousen.

“It wouldn’t make a difference either way,” states Kayo still in a foul mood.

“What does that mean?” thinks Yoshikuni.

“Who cares? It is already done and over with,” states Jando, “Let’s just hope that Kuroda doesn’t chicken out and forfeit as well.”

“Damn it! I didn’t even think about that!” exclaims Kayo attempting to stand up, but quickly being forced to sit back down due to her orders.
__________________________________________________ ___________
Yamashita Uzuki seems to be the most calm of all the spectators. However that is only because he is deep in thought, “What is going on? Why did he order her to forfeit the match? There was no problem when his other teammate fought Hoshi, so why did he have her forfeit? I wonder if he just wants Hoshi at full strength for when they fight. This is all very puzzling, but I will just have to watch and wait.”

“A forfeit is still a loss,” declares the noble sitting next to him, “I win the first part of the bet. It looks like your source is not as reliable as you thought.”

“So it seems,” replies the blue and gold clad noble irritably.
__________________________________________________ ____________
This time Kuroda decides to jump down to the battlefield.
__________________________________________________ ____________
“I guess he isn’t going to forfeit,” comments Kenta.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Hara watches as he lands on the ground with little effort and instead chooses to take the stairs. As he walks down he ponders, “This is all very strange. I don’t understand how he has so much control over his teammate and Sensei. They didn’t even put up a protest to his orders. It could be because he has some sort of immense power that he isn’t letting on, and they follow him out of fear. But that doesn’t explain my conversation with the girl earlier. She had strange sort of admiration for him almost as if he was god-like. Well whatever the reason I think I am going to have to use my full strength if I want to stand a chance against him.”

The most obvious reason for the contracts would be so that Kuroda can expect his orders to be followed without having to worry about resistance. But I am certain there is more to it than that. Something to do with Kurodas' overall plan. As for if I think he is the villain or the hero......it is hard to say but considering his name means something close to Dark Ambition it leads me to lean towards, him being the villain.

Probably just part of his plan I think that he has other objectives as well, don't know about currant objective since in the last chapter he was talking about going back to the village since he had no further need to be in the Rock village. Care to share?Sure. My theory is similar/ the same as Rasen_Chidori's. I think Kuroda is planning to use the contract he has tricked others to sign to force them to either attack the Hidden Rock Village or take over the five Great Nations. I think he wanted Sakura to forfeit so she'd have enough chakra later on for his plan, which I believe is to take down the Hidden Rock Village(at least his current objective). I remember Kuroda saying or thinking "I might be able to use her later" when his squad had to protect that princess. Maybe the way he calls himself to the people who signed the contract works in reverse; maybe he's able to call them to him. So he might call everyone who has signed the contract to his village. Since he has a princess of a country on his signed, he might be able to force the country into helping him with his objective by threatening to order the princess to take her own lift, and we all know she wouldn't be able to refuse if he did or she'd passed out from the pain. Maybe even then he has influence over her, but the contract signer has no way to object, or kill her himself. Anyway, I believe he has forced the country of the princess he tricked to sign the contract into helping him with his plans. Then he'd use his jutsu to summon all the people who signed the contract to him. After that, the take over of the Hidden Rock Village would begin./long-ass theory

I think that you may have something there, but I think that Kuroda is much more likely to use Hoshi in that manner, he could get the Tsuchikage to do almost anything he wants if he threatened to have Hoshi kill herself. But the princess will be another important one I think. Later in the story.

......“Looks like your so called source inside the Petal Village was wrong,” scorns the noble clad in purple, “Ohh and a forfeit still counts as a loss, in case you were going to try and get out of paying.”

“Damn that kid, I thought he said the petal would be having a good day!” thinks the furious noble in blue and gold. On the outside he still presents himself as cool and collected as he replies, “Of course I would never try to do that. Besides the main bet is still coming up, and I can more than make up my loss.”

“We shall see my friend,” replies his counterpart.

“Nobles are so disgusting,” thinks Chiasa internally.

Kuroda explains, “I have been thoroughly impressed by your earlier displays, and it is not necessary for you to prove yourself again. But that is not the only reason I did not want you to fight. You probably would have been able to defeat Hoshi, but not without risking serious injury or even your life. So I did not want to have to accidentally step in. It would be very inconvenient and many people including the Koukage would be angered if another incident happened.”

Sakura says, “I understand. It seems as always that you chose the wisest choice of action.”

“I am glad you agree,” he says.

“There isn’t much point in trying to argue with your level of intelligence,” she states.

“Even I can be wrong sometimes,” he admits, “I’m not perfect you know.”

“Are you sure?” she replies blushing, “Well I should get going. I’ll catch up with you after your match.”

Kuroda sees Hara coming out onto the field and says, “Sakura please explain the situation to Sensei so I don’t have to deal with her pestering later.”

“Yes Kuroda,” she replies and then she quickly runs off to the opening from which Hara just exited.
Kuroda turns around and swiftly makes his way to the center of the battlefield. Once he arrives Tatsuki gets the chills down her back.

“Not again. Why does this keep happening? What is it about this kid?” she thinks as she tries to maintain her poise. Hara quickly arrives soon after and stands opposite of Kuroda. The crowd starts to calm down after the recent unexpected event, and when everything is ready Tatsuki prepares to start the match. “Do I need to remind you both of the rules once more?” she asks.

Sakura reaches the top of the steps and searches around for a familiar face. She sees a large group of Petal Ninja and walks in their direction. She easily spots Kayo’s long black curly hair among them. She walks over sits down next to her when the match is about to start. “Hey Sakura, why did you…?” asks Yui.

“Save your questions for after the match,” interjects Yoshikuni. Looking disappointed and annoyed the blonde haired girl turns her head back towards the arena. Sakura leans over and politely whispers in her sensei’s ear, relaying Kuroda’s message.

Kayo sighs and comments, “And he couldn’t have told me because it would have looked suspicious. I don’t like it, but I understand his reasoning. So do you have any idea what he is going to do today?”

“Not a clue, but it should be fun to watch,” responds Sakura eagerly.

A gust of wind blows a few leaves and some blades of grass flutter in between the fighters. Hara and Kuroda both get into their fighting stances and Tatsuki eyes both of them raising her arm and thinks, “Well here it goes.”

“And…Begin!” she yells as she slices her arm down. Kuroda decides to attack first and runs at Hara attacking with a flurry of punches and kicks. Hara seems to reasonably defend himself, but quickly realizes that Kuroda is not attacking with full power. Kuroda does a spinning jump kick, but the grass ninja slips under the kick with minimal effort. Kuroda follows up with a quick strike aimed at the temple.
Hara dodges by slipping his head to the right. At the same time he slips out a kunai into his left hand and attempts to slice the petal ninja’s arm. Kuroda neatly bends his elbow while lifting his arm and the blade only slices the air. He retracts his arm, but slyly aims a kick at Hara’s head. Hara immediately reverses his kunai to counterattack. Kuroda redirects his kick so that instead he winds up doing the standing splits. Hara changes his upward slice into a forward thrust to Kuroda’s inside thigh. The petal ninja spins on his toe and then hops off to the side and into a summersault.

He instantly turns around and gets into a stance with his hands flat, one arm low, and one arm high. Hara turns and sways a bit to the left as he charges. He bends down low and attacks first with vertical slice angled to the right. Once again Kuroda is able to dodge the kunai. The grass ninja continues to attack, but Kuroda easily avoids all of Hara’s efforts to hit him. Then Kuroda begins to notice something. “He seems to be getting closer to landing a blow with every attack. Wait something is different,” he thinks, “I see, He changed all of his movements and attack patterns since his match with Ichimaru; very clever, but it is not going to matter.”

Kuroda takes out his own kunai while dodging a strike and then begins to increases the speed of his attacks. Their kunai clash and then break off from the engagement and start running parallel to each other. After a number of meters Hara lowers his stance and leaps towards Kuroda while spinning his body. This makes him look like a green blur due to the rate of his rotation. Kuroda immediately drops to the floor and completely flattens his body against it. Once Hara passes over Kuroda up with his hands and spins low to the ground to kick the grass ninja’s ankles as he lands.

However Hara is quick enough to only land on one foot for a second and then push off it before the kick connects. Hara does a few back handsprings to gain some distance. Kuroda springs to his feet and darts after his opponent. As Hara lands he sees Kuroda charging and only three meters away. He bounces off his toes and clashes blades with Kuroda again. While trying to overpower the grass ninja Kuroda switches the kunai to his left hand. Then maneuvers his position and surprisingly goes for a kick with his right leg. Hara gets his left arm up into an l-shape and blocks the kick.

He pushes back and throws Kuroda a little off balance. Hara raises his right knee and kicks forward with the base of his foot in a stomping type attack. Kuroda retracts both his arms into an x-shape defense position in front of his chest. The kick connects with his arms and pushes him back a few feet, but he is left relatively unharmed. Hara runs in a circle around Kuroda increasing his speed tremendously. The petal ninja shifts into a defensive form, but doesn’t even try to track his enemy’s motion. Hara starts to become a blur and when he comes around Kuroda’s backside he vaults high into the air. He looks like a swirling mass and it is impossible to see what is his head or his foot. He shoots down straight on top of Kuroda with a lethal slash. In perfect synchronization Kuroda steps to the side to fully dodge the attack and then he lands a devastating kick into Hara’s stomach that sends him flying.

“Woah this match is intense!” exclaims Kuro Bandou as he watches from the stands.

“Yeah, but I just know that Hara is going to win,” says Mari Matsumoto.

“I don’t know, after that exchange I am getting a little worried,” admits Kuro.

“Why? He is doing fine,” replies Mari.

“That is the whole problem. No one in our class has ever been able to keep up with Hara in Taijutsu. Not even me,” explains Kuro, “But this kid looks like he is having no problem doing it.”

“I guess I see your point, but it doesn’t make a difference,” says Mari, “Hara has more than just Taijutsu.”
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
Kuroda zips forward and lands multiple blows on his opponent. Hara is able to counter a few kicks and then decides to back off and put some distance between them. Hara says, “Stop taking me so lightly, we both know that you are a lot stronger than this.”

“Just testing the waters,” explains the petal ninja, “Unlike you grass ninja I like to gather my intel first hand.”

“You had better start using your full force,” warns Hara.

Kuroda replies, “You should start using your more powerful Jutsu if you want me to take you seriously.”

“If that is the case then fine, have some of these,” yells Hara as he crosses his arms and takes out some shuriken. Then he lifts the weapons up in both hands and throws them in an x-shaped move towards Kuroda.

It was a good chapter, good warm up for the real fight, love how Kuroda is always about 20 steps ahead of everyone else xD.

The one thing that I think I picked up is that when Kuroda said it was going to be a good day for the petal ninja, I think he didn't mean in the fights, he meant something else.

Very nice chapter. A lot of action. Now, I want to see Hara's full powers. Which will make Kuroda show some of his powers too. Awesome!! BTW, as takuya said, in the first paragraph, you said Hokage instead of Koukake. Here is another mistake.

He shoots down straight on top of with a devastating slash.

I think you meant to say on top of "Kuroda".

.......Kuroda ducks under and deflects most of the shuriken. One does cut into the fabric on his elbow, yet it does not hit his flesh. “Almost a hit that time, he is starting to read me a little better,” he thinks as he examines the tear, “But that was still too easy; he just wanted to distract me.” He looks around and notices that Hara is heading for the tree line and thinks, “He is going to use that leaf Jutsu again. Then I will just have spoil his plan.”

In response Kuroda heads towards the small pond. Hara jumps up into a tree and starts the hand signs for his Jutsu just as Kuroda arrives at the water. Hara finishes his Leaf Shuriken Jutsu and spins around to start flinging his weapons at Kuroda. Just before the first one lands Kuroda completes his Ice Weapons Jutsu and forms a staff. Hara throws barrage after barrage of leaf shurikens at Kuroda, but all of them are deflected as Kuroda twirls his ice staff in front of his body. “It’s not possible! He can’t be spinning that fast enough to deflect them all,” thinks Hara.

Kuroda starts advancing towards Hara’s position; all of the shuriken are still bouncing off his staff as he twirls it around, forming a moving shield. “Damn I am running out of leaves. I will just have to try something else,” thinks Hara. With his final few special shurikens Hara also slips in some kunai with small pouches attached to them. When they arrive near the target the pouches explode all around Kuroda and he is exposed to Hara’s Golden Thunder Powder.

“This powder, I should have anticipated he would use it. Oh well it wont make any difference,” thinks Kuroda as he spins his pole around his body to try and clear the air.
Hara takes his chance dropping down from the tree and bounding towards his enemy for some direct attacks. When he gets in range he lunges forward with a heavy punch from his left fist aimed at the head. Kuroda pivots out of the way and swings to wack Hara in the back with his ice pole. But Hara has risen into the sky above and is falling back down with a massive axe kick. Kuroda steps back a fraction and raises his pole with both hands to brace against the impact. The grass ninja’s leg drops down straight through the pole. The ice shatters and returns to water. Hara lands and throws a lazy left hook, but follows it with a lightning fast back spin kick.

Kuroda slaps the punch out of the way and then drops into a full split on the ground to avoid the kick. Then he lashes out at Hara’s base leg with a solid strike. Yet the grass ninja is prepared and jumps off into a high rotating speed flip. As the front of his body comes back around he sticks out his foot for a pendulum kick aimed at Kuroda’s chin. The Petal ninja falls flat on his back and then does a backwards summersault and pushes hard with his hands so he springs to his feet. Hara is right on top of him throwing a punch with his right hand. Kuroda ducks down intending to counter with his own punch to the gut, but Hara has anticipated this and brings his right knee up to smash into Kuroda’s head. Kuroda lowers his body even more and twists away while sticking out his leg for a trip. Hara handsprings away to think of a new plan.

“No, what is going on? All those attacks should have landed. It is like my powder had no effect at all,” thinks Hara as he stares down his enemy. Kuroda is suddenly in front of him and grabs His arm then proceeds to launch him across the field into another tree. Hara grabs a tree branch, flips around it, and lands safely.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
“Yoshikuni-sensei what is going on?” inquires Kenta, “Shouldn’t that powder be slowing him down like it did to Ichimaru? Or did Kuroda use some sort of defense I didn’t see?”

“Well he didn’t do any Jutsu I can confirm that. It is possible that he came up with some sort of counter herb, but the chances of that are low as he doesn’t know the ingredients to the powder,” explains Yoshikuni.

“Plus he has not had any training in that area,” adds Kayo.

“I am pretty sure it is not any of those,” pipes up Tousen.

“So then how is Kuroda still moving like that?” asks Naoko.

Tousen replies, “Well if I had to guess I would say he was…”
__________________________________________________ ________________________________
Kuroda makes his way back towards the water. On the way he explains, “If you are wondering why that powder of yours didn’t work you should stop.”

“Why?” asks Hara.

“Because it did work,” reveals Kuroda, “It merely seems like it did not because my original reflex speed is so much faster than yours that even with the powder I am still far superior.”

“Can he really be that much quicker than I am? But I am even quicker than some of the Chunin in my village. Well it doesn’t matter, because the secondary effect of the powder is about to kick in,” thinks Hara. He climbs higher up in the tree and prepares another Jutsu.

“What is he going to do now?” wonders Kuroda, “Wait, I almost forgot. His powder has that secondary effect. It was foolish for him to explain it earlier; otherwise I might have assumed it was a separate Jutsu. Well then I will just have to protect myself until it passes.”

Kuroda quickly makes a few hand signs and creates three Shadow Clones who in turn use the Ice Weapons Jutsu to make large, round, full body shields. The three clones all jump in front of him and protect him as the violent shaking starts. Hara unleashes another wave of Leaf Shurikens, but they cannot penetrate the shields that protect Kuroda from harm. Hara is exhausted and breathing heavily by the time there are no more leaves left in the tree. When the shaking stops and Kuroda regains control of his body he disperses the clones and makes his way over to Hara. “No, I failed. My shurikens were completely useless, and I wasted a lot of my chakra with that second attack,” thinks Hara as he drops down from the tree.

.......As he walks closer Kuroda tells his opponent, “I am disappointed; I thought you might have had some stronger Jutsu, but I must have been mistaken.”

“If you wanted to see my best Jutsu then fine; you just stepped in range so here it comes: Angry Tree Jutsu!” yells Hara. The tree he is standing in front of grows a dark wicked face and then pulls its own roots from the ground and starts attacking Kuroda. “I hope this works, because it is the last of my chakra,” thinks Hara as he jumps out of the way of the charging deciduous.

“So you still had some chakra left. Impressive, I thought you used it all up in that last attack. This is interesting though, I have never heard of a Jutsu that can bring trees to life,” says Kuroda as he throws two kunai into the base of the tree while backing away.

“I wonder just what you can make them do,” thinks Kuroda as he tries to keep an eye on both Hara and the tree. He runs around the tree dodging when it attacks with its root or thrashes its branches. All the while he attempts various Taijutsu attacks trying to discover a weak spot. In the middle of this the other trees on the battlefield start to wake up and attack. “What? He can control more than one at a time? There is no way he had enough chakra left for this,” he thinks as he starts to retreat. Kuroda tries to counter with shuriken and paper bombs, but none of his attacks have any effect. The trees don’t seem to take any damage and just keep moving forward. He even resorts to trying to punch holes in the trees, but their bark seems to have become thicker than a normal tree.

Kuroda backs up trying to think of a plan, “I vaguely remember reading about members of a clan that can use the wood element Jutsu to manipulate nature. But I have never heard a reference to them being able to make the trees come alive. Wait, something is wrong. This feeling, what is it? Ha ha ha, now I know. This isn’t Ninjutsu it is Genjutsu.” He concentrates and focuses his mind looking for a key point. Once he finds it he then releases a hefty amount of chakra to dispel the Genjutsu. The trees stop moving and appear as they were before back in their original positions. Hara charges at him out of nowhere and thrusts a kunai at his heart. Kuroda is barely able to avoid the attack and then leaps far away.

“Why am I so slow? He didn’t throw his powder again did he? No, I feel it. This is another Genjutsu. Hara must have activated along with the first, very clever,” thinks Kuroda. He focuses his mind and releases another large amount of chakra to dispel it. Yet once again the trees pull their roots from the ground and start to attack. “Impressive, he was able to triple layer the Genjutsu. He really is a prodigy. If I wasn’t in this competition I suspect he would have easily won. Too bad I am here. I’m betting he also put another Genjutsu layer on top of this, so I’ll put some more chakra into this just in case,” thinks Kuroda as he releases some more chakra and then some more quickly after he senses the fourth layer. Finally everything returns to normal and Kuroda sees an exhausted Hara breathing heavily, but preparing to attack.

“Sensei what just happened?” inquires Rame Tsu, “Kuroda was acting really strange and jumping all over the place and then Hara suddenly looked like he was greatly fatigued.”

“Care to explain Kayo?” suggests Tousen.

“Sensei was that Genjutsu?” guesses Sakura.

“Very good Sakura, yes it was Genjutsu,” confirms Kayo, “And it was a very high level at that. I suspect Hara started preparing it right when the battle started.”

“Yet Kuroda was able to break free from it,” comments Yoshikuni, “Very impressive.”

“Kuroda is really strong!” exclaims Kenta.

“Yeah, go Kuroda. You can do it!” cheers Yui.

“What in the world is going on?” says Mazuma in disbelief.

“What is wrong Mazuma, getting scared that your student will lose?” questions Chiaki.

“It doesn’t matter if Hara loses, that is not the problem,” states Mazuma.

“Then what is it?” asks Kenji.

“That Genjutsu is not an ordinary Jutsu. It is a multilayered Jutsu secretly developed by the Hidden Grass Village. I wasn’t even aware that Hara knew about it or could use it,” explains Mazuma.

“So then you are angry with your pupil?” inquires Kenji.

“No, the problem is that Jutsu is a Jonin level technique. No Genin should have enough chakra to break through it, even if Hara didn’t use it at full power.”

“You are forgetting that his Sensei is Kayo Yuhi, a Genjutsu master. I am sure she must have given him training in that area,” says Chiaki.

“That kid is this talented in Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu,” comments Kenji, “Where has the Petal Village been hiding him all of this time?”

“I have no idea, but I intend to find out,” promises Mazuma.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Kuroda says, “I commend you on the strength of your Genjutsu and the strategy you used. The first layer needed a lot of chakra to overcome; it was designed to make me waste a majority of mine. Then the second was so subtle that I barely realized it was another Genjutsu. The third layer was designed incase anyone got past the second stage. The fourth was merely a safety net. Most ninja wouldn’t have enough chakra left to dispel it. So someone could either waste large amounts of chakra, or repeatedly injure themselves to get out of the technique.”

“Very good analysis. I don’t know how you got through it all, but you must be out of chakra, so now it is time for you to die,” yells Hara as he runs in with a kunai for a final attack. Kuroda easily grabs Hara’s arm and flips him over his shoulder onto the ground.

Kuroda explains, “It was very impressive and would have worked on most ordinary ninja, but since I happen to have an extremely large amount of chakra it did not affect me as much you had hoped it would.” Hara struggles to his feet, too exhausted to give a response.

Kuroda charges at Hara and lands a punch in the gut sending him flying across the field. Then he speeds around before Hara hits the ground and lands a kick in the back sending him belly first into the air. Kuroda jumps up, repeatedly kicking Hara in the back and forcing him higher and higher into the air. He does a triple flip over the top and lands a final axe kick to the stomach sending Hara crashing to the ground. After the assault Kuroda lands a short distance away. Hara is lying on the earth and coughing up large amounts of blood, but still tries to stand.

Kuroda takes out a kunai and then charges at Hara preparing to finish him off. Right as Kuroda’s final attack is about to land Tatsuki steps in and grabs Kuroda’s arm stopping him from attacking. Kuroda looks at her with an eerie smile and says, “I was wondering if you were going to stop me.”

Tatsuki starts to get a bad feeling in her stomach and quickly throws his arm away. “I am putting a stop to this match. The winner is Kuroda Taishi,” she announces. The crowd explodes at the conclusion of the impressive battle. A team of medical ninja quickly rush on and carry Hara off the battlefield. The Koukage sits quietly with a small smile on her face. Many of the Petal Ninja watching in the stands begin to chant Kuroda’s name.

“No way this is impossible, how could Hara lose?” says Mari in a state of shock.

“There is always someone out there that is going to be better than you are,” comments Kuro, “For me it is Hara, and as of now Kuroda is that person for Hara.”

“But he is Hara! Nobody can beat him,” she replies.

“Get a hold of yourself,” orders Kuro, “We are representatives of the Village Hidden in the Grass. Don’t make our village look like sore losers. Hara tried his best and fought a good match, he showed the strength of our village.”

“My my, it seems my source was correct after all,” gloats the blue and gold garbed noble.

“Yes yes, you have won the second part of our bet,” grumbles the purple clad noble.

“Well then all that remains is the final match tomorrow,” says the first noble. “And what does your source tell you about that match?” inquires the second noble.

“Well I will have to consult with my source again, but I think I will be staying with my pick,” replies the first.

“Miss Inuzu what do you think of your student’s chances tomorrow?” inquires the second noble.

“The Tsuchikage’s daughter is very strong. She will be able to hold her own,” replies Chiasa.

“Yeah right Inuzu, Kuroda is going to destroy her,” thinks the blue and gold garbed noble as a sinister smile jumps onto his face.

“He can see right through your doubt,” whispers Yamashita so only his Sensei can hear.

“Did you say something young man?” inquires the purple clad noble.

“Only that I am looking forward to seeing Hoshi make the Rock Village proud tomorrow,” replies Yamashita.

“I am looking forward to it myself,” replies the noble.
__________________________________________________ ________________________________
“Kuroda is so amazing!” exclaims Yui.

“Yeah, he has got the brains of Ichimaru and the speed and power of Shun,” adds Kenta.

“Not only that, but he has some powerful Ninjutsu and thanks to all the extra training he has done with Kayo-sensei he has great Genjutsu,” says Sakura.

“I see, so that is how he got past that powerful Genjutsu that Hara used,” comments Tousen, “Well you must be an excellent teacher indeed Kayo.”

“Maybe you should stop trying to pick up girls and actually train us once in a while,” mutters Rame Tsu.

“Now I see why Shun didn’t want to fight him. Kuroda is so strong. There is no way Shun would have been able to defeat him,” thinks Rame Tsu, “I want to know how Kuroda became so strong, but the real question is why he became so strong. He never showed any real interest in becoming a ninja back in the academy, so what changed?”

Jando balls his hand into a fist and secretly thinks, “Damn he is already that strong. But I won’t give up! I will surpass you one day Kuroda.”

“So then tomorrow it looks like the final is going to be between Kuroda and Hoshi,” comments Yoshikuni, “I think it is going to be an interesting match, especially with all the political implications it has.”

“What do you mean Sensei?” asks Yui.

“Well it is the daughter of the Tsuchikage up against a ninja that basically no one had any idea about,” says Yoshikuni, “If Kuroda wins it could mean big things for the Petal Village.”
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Back down on the field Tatsuki starts to announce to the crowd, “The final match is going to be held tomorrow at…”

When Kuroda walks over to her and taps her on the shoulder, “Excuse me a moment before you make that announcement.”

“Yeah what is it?” she asks. He leans in close, making her very uncomfortable. He notices this and smirks but then whispers something into her ear. “Are you crazy kid? You just fought,” she says in surprise.

Kuroda yawns and says, “That last battle wasn’t very tiring and I don’t really want to waste anymore time in this village, so I would like to have the final match right now. Please relay my request to your Tsuchikage.”

Tatsuki is very disturbed by this request, but taps on her ear radio and speaks to a Rock ninja who is standing up in the top of the arena.

...........The Tsuchikage’s assistant at first thinks it is a joke, but then walks over and taps his superior on the shoulder and whispers, “Excuse me sir, but there is a message from the proctor.”

“Tatsuki? Is this about why she is delaying?” inquire Masato.

“Yes sir, apparently the young Petal Genin has made a request,” explains the assistant.

“A request? Interesting. What is it?” asks Masato. The assistant leans in and repeats the request into the Tsuchikage’s ear. When he gets the message the Tsuchikage is both amused and angered.

“What is so funny Lord Tsuchikage?” she asks.

“I just got a request from your Genin down there," says Masato.

“A request from Kuroda? What does he want?” she bothered by the news, but not showing it visibly.

“He wants to have the final match, now,” laughs the Tsuchikage, “What do you think?”

“This is very surprising,” comments Michiyo.

“You sure this isn’t on your orders Lady Katonae?” he inquires.

“Certainly not,” she responds, “He is either stupid or extremely confident in his own abilities, either way I do not really care what happens. Your village is hosting the exams, so it is your decision.”

“Interesting, very interesting, well then I guess I am going to grant his request.” He motions for the aid to come back to him and says, “Inform the proctor that we will be having the final match now.”

“Yes Lord Tsuchikage,” he says and bows, and then gets back on the radio to relay the decision.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Tatsuki receives the orders and says, “He said what? Are you sure?”

“What did he decide?” inquires Kuroda.

Ignoring him Tatsuki announces the decision to the whole crowd, “Per the request of one of the participants, and with the approval of the Tsuchikage. The final match will be moved up to today, and will start in 15 minutes.” The crowd reaction is very confused, many of them thinking that she is joking. When she shows no sign of this they begin to break out into various groups of discussion.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Kayo is furious and thinks, “Is this what you were doing? You didn’t want Sakura to fight so you could take the Tsuchikage’s daughter on. But that Genjutsu the Grass Ninja used was very powerful. Even with your advanced abilities to repel Genjutsu it still must have taken a large portion of your chakra to get past it. You cannot beat her with the chakra you have left. So what is your real plan?”
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Chiasa punches her fist into the seat next to her causing it to break into pieces, and scarring the people around her. Yamashita sits calmly next to her. Chiasa mutters, “You! What do you think you are doing? Its bad enough you killed Naga the way you did, but now you think you can defeat Hoshi after you have just fought a match. Are you trying to mock our village? We are not one of the weaker villages. We are the Village Hidden in the Rocks, one of the Five Great Ninja Villages. You’ll see, Hoshi will take revenge for Naga and your insolence.”

“Well it seems someone is a bit upset,” says the noble in purple.

“I apologize my lord,” says Chiasa, “That brat seems to have a knack for infuriating me.”

Yamashita quietly sits and thinks to himself, “No Sensei you are mistaken. He still has that secret Jutsu of his, but I doubt he will use it here, since he hasn’t used it in any of the other matches. My only question is why did he not let his teammate fight Hoshi? Is he trying to humiliate our village by fighting two matches in a row? If he looses, then the Tsuchikage will seem like the bad party for allowing him to fight twice. However if he wins, then our village seems weak. What is your goal in all of this Kuroda Taishi?”

“Kuroda what is the meaning of this? What are you trying to pull?” thinks the noble in blue and gold.

“Getting worried you are going to lose the bet?” inquires the noble in purple.

“My source said it would be a good day for the Petal, so maybe it will be a better day than I even imagined,” the blue and gold garbed noble replies.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
“Kayo-sensei what is going on? Is Kuroda demented?” asks Rame Tsu, “He may be good, but there is no way he has enough chakra left to take on someone of Hoshi’s level.”

“But look, he doesn’t even look that tired,” points out Kenta, “Even after that tough Genjutsu.”

“I have no idea,” says Kayo, “He just does whatever he wants.”

“Are you trying to humiliate me?” thinks Jando as he makes a fist, “You think that you are just going to go out there and win after you just had a match?”

“Regardless of what Kuroda is doing, I am more curious about why the Koukage is agreeing to it,” says Tousen, “She usually wouldn’t allow something like this.”

“I’m betting that she left the decision up to Lord Ishimaru,” says Yoshikuni, “That way whatever happens will be on the shoulders of the Hidden Rock.”

“Do you think he will win Sakura?” asks Yui.

“Without a doubt,” she replies, “Kuroda wouldn’t have asked to have the match now if he didn’t plan on winning it.”
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
“Chiaki what is this, what is going on?” asks Kenji.

“How the hell would I know?” she retorts.

“Well you are supposed to be the smart one,” he replies.

“This is ludicrous, why did your Tsuchikage approve of this? He is going to get destroyed,” says Mazuma trying to figure out the situation, “The Hidden Rock has nothing to gain by having the match today.”

“Maybe he doesn’t think that Hoshi can win if he lets Kuroda recover for a day,” suggests Kenji.

“Even if he knows she couldn’t win I still find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t give her the chance to overcome such a challenge,” says Chiaki, “I mean she is practically destined to take the reins of leadership from him when she is older.”

“A deal with the Koukage perhaps?” asks Mazuma.

“Not likely,” she responds, “It really doesn’t sound like either of them.”

“It seems like we are missing some very important piece of information,” says Kenji, “And I doubt we will ever discover what it is.”
__________________________________________________ __________________________________
Hoshi quietly makes her way back to the battlefield and prepares for her fight and contemplating, “What is going on? I know why father approved the match, but why did Kuroda request it? How can I possibly fight him? He can just order me to surrender. What am I supposed to do?” When she gets to the center of the field she is visibly trembling.

Tatsuki watches Hoshi as she approaches and thinks, “Look at her, she is shaking with fear. I know she fought him before in the Forest of Lost Souls, but could the encounter really have made her this afraid? Well I shouldn’t speak, because I myself have this horrible feeling whenever he is near me. She should be able to win, since he just fought a match, but I better keep an extra close eye out so nothing happens.”

Hoshi breathes deeply to calm down a bit, and then assumes a fighting stance. Kuroda on the other hand just stands in a relaxed position. Tatsuki looks at him questionably, and asks them both, “Are you ready to start?”

“Yes,” responds Hoshi, and Kuroda merely nods.

“Okay, then begin,” says Tatsuki. Neither of them moves. She repeats herself thinking they misheard, “Begin the match!” but again neither of them makes a move.

The crowd starts to get restless, some people shouting, “Come on let’s go! I came here to see a fight. Get a move on!”

Tatsuki asks them, “What are you two doing? Why wont either of you attack?” Hoshi doesn’t answer, so Kuroda decides to say something.

He explains, “I am simply giving her the chance to attack. It is the honorable thing that the lady should go first.” Hoshi still doesn’t move a muscle. Kuroda says, “Maybe she is just too afraid to attack me.”

Hoshi finally works up the nerve and reaches into her pouch and takes out a kunai. She attempts to throw it at Kuroda, but the surging pain envelopes her body and she falls to her knees as she releases and the kunai falls harmlessly to the ground a few feet away from her. Tatsuki is so surprised that she blurts out, “What the hell?”
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Chiasa stands up and yells, “Hoshi what is wrong? What did he do?” Yamashita still sits calmly next to her, observing and thinking, “He didn’t even use any hand signs. How did he stop her attack? Did he use his Jutsu to attack some of her nerves?”

“Why look at that,” says the noble in the blue and gold, “He is so good he doesn’t even have to move and he can win.”

“What is this? Is this some trick!” yells the noble in purple.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Sakura and Kayo are both watching closely. Kayo softly speaks so that only Sakura can hear, “I recognize that. How could I not? So he got her to sign one of his contracts and now she cannot attack him. But when did he do it?”

“In the Forest of Lost Souls,” answers Sakura.

“In the forest?” inquires Kayo.

“Right at the start he knocked out Jando and went off on his own. He returned the next day,” explains Sakura.

“I see, so that is the real reason why you took so long to complete the second exam,” says Kayo.

“Yes Sensei,” she confirms.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
“Is there something wrong with your daughter?” asks the 8th Koukage.

“Not that I am aware of,” answers the Tsuchikage, “That’s a very impressive Jutsu your Genin knows. I have never seen anything like it before, and he preformed it so quickly and with such ease.”

“Yes, he is very skilled,” she answers, but secretly thinks, “That’s no technique. I don’t sense any chakra coming from Kuroda at all.”
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
“Did either of you catch that?” asks Kenji.

“I don’t pretend to have the best eyes in the world, but mine are pretty good,” says Mazuma, “And I didn’t see a thing.”

“Me neither,” says Chiaki.

“Did he set something up during the last match?” asks Kenji.

“If he did I didn’t see it either,” says Mazuma.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Tatsuki looks at Hoshi writhing in pain on the ground, then looks back to Kuroda and thinks, “What the hell is he doing to her? How the hell could a kid use this kind of technique? And when did he do it? I didn’t see him use any hand signs at all. What is going on? Is this kid really a Genin?”

Kuroda explains, “I think my earlier statement might have been slightly incorrect. I don’t think that she is afraid of attacking me. It seems more like she is incapable of attacking me.”

Tatsuki doesn’t understand thinking, “Incapable of attacking him? What does he mean?”

Kuroda finally makes a move and performs a Summing Jutsu. A large puff of smoke gathers under his hand and then a grey elephant roughly the size of a small horse appears. It wears a blue and brown cotton wrap around its center that has a number of weapons attached to it. It also has various blue symbols tattooed around its body. “Welcome Dantoloxo,” says Kuroda.

.......Dantoloxo looks around to see who he is going to fight thinking, “Well who is it going to be, that woman or the girl on the ground? Fighting is the only reason for me to be summoned.” He looks over at Kuroda seeking directions.
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
“A summoning Jutsu? I didn’t know Kuroda had one too,” comments Yui back up in the stands.

“That is so cool, do you have one too Jando?” asks Kenta.

“I don’t need a summoning Jutsu, I can win on my own!” responds Jando.

Kayo sits slightly confused, wondering, “Why did he why use a summoning Jutsu if she can’t attack him? He could just order he to surrender and she would be forced to obey. Or he could knock her around while she is helpless to defend herself. What are you doing Kuroda?”

“Stop worrying Sensei,” says Sakura interrupting her thoughts, “Kuroda knows what he is doing, so stop trying to figure it out and just watch.”
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
The power of the contract subsides and the pain ends so Hoshi rises back onto her feet. Kuroda now turns to her and says, “Since you are unable to attack me I am going to give you a fighting chance. Instead of fighting me, you will take on Dantoloxo here. If you are able to defeat Dantoloxo I promise to forfeit the match.”

“What the heck is going on here?” wonders Tatsuki.

Kuroda turns towards Dantoloxo, “I want you to go all out against her, but to make sure not to use any fatal attacks. If you did it would be very troublesome for me.”

“Understood,” says Dantoloxo.

Hoshi listens to Kuroda’s proposal thinking, “If I don’t obey him that pain will come back again, so I really don’t have a choice." She takes out several kunai and shuriken and throws them at Dantoloxo to test his abilities.

“I don’t understand why is she listening to him?” wonders Tatsuki, “Did he put some type of spell on her, or can she really not attack him?”

Dantoloxo easily bats the weapons away with his trunk. Hoshi thinks, “That elephant is no pushover. His trunk must be very thick if he was able to slap away those weapons and not get cut. Even Kuroda’s summoned beasts have amazing strength. This isn’t going to be easy, but what choice do I have? Oh well, here it goes.”

She punches a whole in the ground quickly does a few hand signs. The debris gathers and forms small sharp weapons. “Stone Shuriken Jutsu,” she screams out before flinging the shurikens at the elephant.
This time Dantoloxo dodges the projectiles seeing that they are made of harder material than the last attack.

When he lands he counterattacks by shooting bursts of long streams of water at her yelling, “Water Style: Hydro Stream!” The water slices into the earth, destroying about one foot of the soil wherever it makes contact. Seeing the power of the Jutsu, Hoshi wisely dives out of the way as it comes towards her. When the stream ceases she punches another hole in the ground and counters with her stone shuriken.

They both dodge and counter each other for a while, neither of them gaining the upper hand. “This isn’t working, my water Jutsu is too slow to catch her,” thinks Dantoloxo.

“I’m going to have to move in closer,” thinks Hoshi, “My blades should be able to penetrate him since he was dodging the stone shuriken.”

She punches another hole in the ground and performs a different set of hand signs. The debris gathers around her hands, forming long, hard, sharp blades around them. “Stone Hand Blades,” she says. Meanwhile Dantoloxo has used his trunk to take out a kunai from one of the slots on his midsection. They charge at each other, letting loose their battle cries.

As Hoshi storms ahead she lazily leaves her arms to the sides so that the stone blades drag across the earth leaving lines tracing her path. As she comes into range she her arms up to her right side and puts one a few inches above the other, turning the flat sides parallel to the ground. When close enough she thrusts her hands forward for a double knife stab. In response Dantoloxo lunges ahead and manages to slip his trunk right in the small gap between her arms. Realizing that he has the advantage in reach Hoshi twists her arms and pushes left so that his trunk is slapped off to the side. Then she moves her left arm up at a guard position while slicing her right arm at an upward angle back across her body.

The attack hits, however it connects with one of the weapons stored on Dantoloxo’s body, so he is unharmed. They engage each other at close range, blocking and countering, and defending. They seem to be evenly matched at close range combat as well. At one point the elephant leaps high into the air and then somehow begins to spin his body rapidly while holding out the kunai to create a buzz saw like attack. Hoshi doesn’t anticipate it fast enough so she barely escapes getting her leg chopped off. Dantoloxo immediately slices after her when she rolls away. Then he spins around and lands a hind leg kick in her back.

Before she flies off the elephant grabs hold of her left leg by wrapping his trunk around it. He easily lifts her light body up into the air and then slams her back down. However Hoshi prevents herself from getting the full force of the impact by stabbing her stone hand blades into the earth. Then with her free leg she kicks her heel back into the face of the opponent. Dantoloxo is only slightly bothered by this, but he still rips her back up into the air and hurls her away. Hoshi lands gracefully about thirty feet away an instantly pushes off her feet and charges in again.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Meanwhile Kuroda has made his way next to Tatsuki and is watching the battle beside her. At first she doesn’t realize he is there until he says, “A very exciting battle don’t you think?”

She jumps in her skin at the sound of her voice and wonders, “When the hell did he get over there? And why didn’t I notice he was this close to me? Something is definitely wrong here.”

Still keeping an eye on the battle she asks him, “Why are you not fighting? This battle is completely pointless if you don’t even participate.”

Kuroda responds, “Come now don’t be foolish, you are well aware of the rules. I used a Jutsu to summon my friend Dantoloxo. Dantoloxo is engaging my opponent. So therefore I am technically fighting. Also as you observed earlier Hoshi is unable or unwilling to attack me directly. I think that if I were to attack her directly it wouldn’t be very entertaining, and one of the main points of the exam is to entertain all the important guests that have come.”
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
Hoshi slams her bladed hands into the ground, her attack aimed at where Dantoloxo just stood. He circles around and slashes at her back, but she gets her arm around in time to black the kunai.
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
Tatsuki inquires, “You keep telling me that the Tsuchikage’s daughter won’t attack you. Why is that?”

Kuroda states, “The most obvious answer is that most Genin would be scared to face me after seeing even one of my previous battles, but that is not the reason why. She won’t attack because she saw my true power in the forest and she knows that if I really wanted to kill her she could not do anything about it.”

Tatsuki remembers back to her meeting with the Tsuchikage after the preliminary rounds and how Hoshi described Kuroda’s ability. She speculates, “I wonder what this ability of his is. But how could a mere Genin have such a high level technique. No, I have to stop fooling myself. He is not a Genin. This feeling I get every time he is around me. No Genin could do that to me. He has to be at least a Chunin level ninja. But why is he only ranked as a Genin? Is this some sort of plot by the Village Hidden in the Petals?”

“If she knew she had no possibility of winning the match, then why did she not forfeit it?” asks Tatsuki.

“That should be obvious,” replies Kuroda.

“How so?” asks Tatsuki.

“She is the daughter of the Tsuchikage," he states, "How would it reflect upon your village if she forfeited a match?”

She thinks a bit, and then responds, “You seem to be right. She had no choice but to enter into the match. Even though she knew she would lose, it would be much better then forfeiting.” They stop talking for a while and watch the battle between Hoshi and the elephant.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Hoshi jumps up into a flying spin kick. Dantoloxo blocks the kick with his trunk and then wraps it tightly around her leg. As he prepares to toss her way she reveals her real intentions by stabbing her left arm at his head. The elephant quickly snaps his trunk up and releases his grip to send her off target and into a high velocity over the back spin. Hoshi smartly lines her arms up parallel to each other to create a double buzz saw and prevent him from using a secondary attack. Dantoloxo leaps backwards while throwing two shuriken at her for some cover.
__________________________________________________ __________________________________
After some more fighting Tatsuki decides, “This match is pointless; I’m going to stop it.”

.........Kuroda warns her, "Don't stop the match!"

She looks at him questioningly, "Why not?"

"Because I said so," he replies. "What kind of reason is that? I don't have to listen to some kid," she says and takes a step forward and slowly raises her arm up.

He gives her another warning, "If you attempt to stop the match I won't hesitate to break your neck." Tatsuki takes the threat seriously and begins to draw a kunai. Kuroda advises, "I wouldn't do that either. It won't matter if you have a weapon or not, I can kill you in less than a second. But also it would look really bad if you had your weapon drawn. There are hundreds of people from many different countries watching right now. They would all be very eager to know why a proctor was attacking a competitor for no apparent reason. It would make the Hidden Rock Village look very bad and disrupt the newly formed relations between their two villages. On the other hand if I attacked you then I could simply make the excuse that I believed you were an assassin from another village sent to kill the Tsuchikage's daughter. Plus I have made all the necessary preparations for that scenario."

Tatsuki realizes, "This kid isn't playing around. I doubt he would take me down as fast as he says, but I don't think he was lying about the assassination thing. Reports say that our forces have been tracking him for the past month, but he goes missing for long periods of time. He could have it all prepared. What should I do? Why doesn't he want me to stop the match? Well all I can do now is watch and wait, and see what he does."

She slips her kunai back into its resting place and continues to observe both the ongoing match and the mysterious young ninja by her side.

"It looks like Hoshi is struggling a bit against this elephant," comments Mazuma.

"Normally with her Kekkei Genkai she would be unbeatable in close range combat," explains Kenji, "But I guess she hasn't had much experience fighting against ninja animals."

"And certainly not an elephant," replies Mazuma, "I haven't heard of anyone who could use that kind of summoning in a while."

"What was that all about?" asks Chiaki as she watches Hoshi dodge a powerful stomp from Dantoloxo.

"What do you mean?" inquires Kenji.

"For a second there it looked like Tatsuki was going to attack Kuroda," says Chiaki.

"Your eyes must be playing tricks on you," says Kenji, "No way would she ever attack any competitor."

"I guess," she agress, "But I could have sworn..."

"Do you mind if I ask a personal question?" inquires Kuroda.

"What is it?' replies Tatsuki showing slight irritation.

"You don't happen to be ill do you?" he asks.

"Excuse me?" she replies confused by the question.

"I have noticed that you've been looking a little pale ever since I first saw you at the tower. You also seem to be suffering from uncontrollable shaking mainly focused in your right arm," deducts Kuroda, "So I was wondering if you happened to be inflicted with some sort of disease or suffering from an illness."

"There is nothing wrong with me, I am fine," she says firmly.

"I guess it is just my imagination then," he comments.

Meanwhile Hoshi is getting irritated, "This isn't working. For an animal that big he moves very fast, and is very agile. I can see the weak points in his defense, but I'm not fast enough to take advantage of them. I need a distraction."

Dantoloxo pulls out a special kunai that is a little longer than a normal kunai and has blades on both ends. "Time to optimize my Taijutsu attack capabilities," he thinks.

Hoshi charges in and slices down with both her arm blades parallel to each other. The ninja elephant curls is trunk up and blocks both the blades with his special kunai. Then he pushes back up and throws her backwards a few feet.

She lures him into attacking, and dodges so that the kunai he is wielding goes straight into a tree. It gets stuck, and while he attempts to pull it out she backs off to a distance and momentarily drops her hand blades Jutsu. The blades return to debris and rocks and fall to the ground, but this now allows her to perform hand signs.

"Earth Clone Jutsu," she shouts out when she finishes the seals. Nearby exposed dirt and roots gathers together and forms into two copies of Hoshi. Dantoloxo frees his weapon and turns around to see three girls running at him in an attack formation.

......They all have their hands morphed into sharp blades of stone. He on the other hand only has a single kunai to defend himself. The two clones run off and circle around to both sides going for a pincer attack. The elephant grips his double sided kunai with his trunk and waits until they close in. When they are right on top of him he hops up into a rapid side over side rotation. This enables him to deflect the incoming stone blades of both of the clones. After their attacks fair the clones leap away, wary of getting caught by the buzz saw like move.

"So Hoshi is able to use earth natured chakra very impressive," comments Yoshikuni.

"It makes sense considering her Kekkei Genkai," says Kayo.

"Yoshikuni-sensei you are able to sense a ninja's nature element also?" questions Sakura.

"No I don't have the same ability that Kayo does," he replies.

"Then how do you know Hoshi has the earth element?" asks Jando.

"It is because of her clone Jutsu," says Tousen.

"Her clone Jutsu? What do you mean?" asks Rame Tsu.

"Those aren't the same variety of clones she used against Jando in yesterdays match," explains Yoshikuni, "Those were Stone type. They are very strong and hard to defeat, but also very slow. These ones are dirt clones. They are much faster and more agile. The only problem is if they enemy gets a solid hit on them they will fall to pieces. But as you saw they didn't fall apart after being hit right now. If you add earth type chakra into them they become a lot more durable."

"She is already able to actively use nature chakra at such a young age," says Tousen, "What a magnificent young girl."

"You are such a pedophile," mutters Naoko.

Meanwhile one of the copies is slashing across Dantoloxo's torso as another comes at him from above. He jumps back and lifts up his kunai to defend from the sky attack. However the clone on the ground leaps forward and smashes its shoulder into his gut. He falls on his back, but rolls over the top and lands on his feet again. The enemy appears right at his side and stabs her stone blade at his feet. He hops to the right to avoid it and then whips his trunk around and smashes her in the temple before she can withdraw her blade from the ground. He watches her fly off, but is almost too slow when another copy appears on his right side.

He whips his trunk back around in time to meet her blade with his special kunai. She slices downward with her free arm, but somehow he is able to block it with the other side of his kunai. Another figure suddenly slides under him on its back. The third Hoshi pulls her legs into her chest and then they explode upward into his gut and shoot him high into the air. The two clones regroup and jump up as gravity pulls him into the air. The sync their movements and perfectly time opposite leg spin kicks that slam into his side. He flies across the arena and when he hits the ground he tumbles over multiple times before sliding to a stop.

As Dantoloxo stands he thinks, "Damn, she was just starting to slow down from exhaustion too. I wish I was able to use some sort of clone Jutsu. That would make my job a whole lot easier. Oh well, I thought I saw a pond around here somewhere. I can just use that Jutsu." He quickly sprints over to the pond with Hoshi and her clones in pursuit. He jumps into the shallow part of the pond and then turns around to face them.

"Hold up, it is a trap," the original Hoshi shouts. The two clones come to a halt a few yards away from the elephant.

He laughs, "You shouldn't have stopped. If you were closer, you might be able to avoid my next attack. Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!" A pillar of water shoots up from the pond, twisting and turning, and taking on the appearance of a dragon. Then it lunges forward at the clones as they scramble to get out of the way.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
Kuroda is pleased and thinks, "I didn't think Dantoloxo would be able to use such a powerful Jutsu. This is very good. He will be a great asset for me in the future."
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
The attack easily wipes out both of the clones and then turns to head towards the original, who had stopped a lot further away. ";);););)," yells Hoshi. Her stone hand blades fall to pieces and out of instinct she rattles out a number of hand signs. "Earth Release: Earth Shore Return," she screams as the water dragon rushes straight at her. She thrusts her hands into the ground before her and a large block of stone rises from the earth to form a wall between her and the incoming attack. The water dragon crashes against the wall that was just formed. The wall stands sturdy under the pressure until all the water is gone and sits motionless at its base.
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________
Kuroda thinks, "That defensive Jutsu she just used is very interesting. It is crude, but effective if the attack is only coming from one direction. Plus I think it is much stronger than my ice shield, and I don't have to take into effect the weather."

Tatsuki accidentally comments, "When did the Tsuchikage's daughter learn that Jutsu? I thought she wasn't ready yet?" Kuroda glances at her and smiles, then returns his gaze to the battle.
__________________________________________________ __________________________________
The advanced Ninjutsu leaves Hoshi drained of energy and chakra so she can barely catch her own breath. Dantoloxo has charged forward and circled around the wall to her left side, so he can have a clear line of sight. "Looks like she is out of chakra," he thinks, "I guess I should end it then."

He charges at her as fast as he can and then curls himself into a ball and launches himself straight at her. Hoshi doesn't have enough time or energy to dodge, so the attack hits her flat in the chest and sends her half way across the field. Dantoloxo then jumps high into the air and comes crashing directly down on Hoshi. She is just able to roll out of the way, but before she can do anything he slams his trunk into her face. Hoshi falls to the ground a few meters away. She tries to stand up, but is too weak and tired to lift herself.

Dantoloxo looks like he is going to attack again, but Kuroda appears next to him and says, "The fight is over. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. I was very impressed. That is all, you may return to wherever it is that you come from."

Dantoloxo sighs, "As you wish," then disappears in a puff of smoke. Kuroda walks over to the battered Hoshi. He stares at her while she lays on the ground hardly conscious. He bends down and lifts her up into his arms, and then he carries her all the way over to Tatsuki and gently lays her on the ground.

"She is not critically injured, but she does require medical attention," he says.

Tatsuki realizes, "He ended the match before that elephant used its final attack. Most likely it would have killed her. But why? He did not treat his other opponents with any concern for their well being. Is it because she is the Tsuchikage's daughter? Well it doesn't matter, it is over. I just need to report all of this to the Tsuchikage and he will decide what to do about it."

Tatsuki raises her arm and officially declares, "The winner of the match and the tournament is Kuroda Taishi," and then she speaks into her ear piece, "We need a medical team down here immediately."
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________
The Tsuchikage speaks to the Koukage and says, "It seems your Genin is not just cocky. He is at a much higher level then any of the other Genin. I wonder how is such a strong ninja is still only a Genin? Also I haven't heard any news that the Petal Village had such a talented shinobi in its ranks."

The Koukage eyes him and responds, "I am offended that I would be asked a question about the internal affairs of my village. However I will give you a bit of information as a gesture of faith. Kuroda had not been on active duty for a while so that's why he was relatively unheard of. And he is still a Genin because of instances like today where he acts out of turn and doesn't respect the rules of conduct that shinobi are supposed to abide by."

The Tsuchikage says, "I understand your reasoning. A ninja who won't follow orders can end up getting his comrades killed. However, because of these exams you will have no choice to promote him to Chunin. People will want to hire him for the skills he has demonstrated in the exams."

She sighs, "You are right I guess, how troublesome."

He laughs and responds, "Being the leader of an entire village isn't supposed to be easy."

"I wish someone had told me that before I took the job," she responds.

He chuckles again then stands to make an announcement. The Tsuchikage's voice booms so all of the audience can here it, "Congratulates Kuroda Taishi of the Village Hidden in the Petals. Your victory was most impressive, but I must remind you that just because you won doesn't necessarily mean you will become a Chunin."

Good news, I just finished revising the rest of the Chunin exams so they should be up every wednesday unless I have computer problems. I have 2 more arcs after that, then I have to right a third arc and then there will be a time skip. Then 7 more arcs are written, 3 in planning stages, 2 more written, and then a bunch more in planning stages.

I also am working on revising the Snow Country Arc and everything after that up until the Chunin exams.

So there is a lot to look forward too.

Kuroda doesn't show any sign that he cares at all if he becomes a Chunin. The crowd however begins to break out into discussions on what should happen. "Well now it seems my sources prediction was entirely accurate," says the smug noble dressed in blue and gold, "The Petal village had a grand day indeed. Sorry to inform you Miss Inuzu, but it seems you and the Tsuchikage were overly confident in the abilities of his daughter. She is strong indeed, but against someone of Kuroda's caliber she is no match at all."

Chiasa stays quiet and keeps her anger and irritation inside. "He hardly even had to move at all and he was low on chakra, but he absolutely crushed her," thinks Yamashita as he analyzes the match, "He is excellent in strategy, strong in Taijutsu, knows a variety of Ninjutsu, and has strong Genjutsu defense. That alone makes him a top class ninja and a serious threat. But if you add in his unpredictability and the mysterious Jutsu he used in the Forest of Lost Souls that makes Kuroda Taishi a very dangerous man."

"Well it seems that I have lost our bet," admits the noble dressed in purple robes as he stands to leave, "The money will be sent to you within the week."

"I look forward to testing my luck against you at the next exams," says the other noble.

"Yes, yes," he replies as he walks away, "You won't be so lucky next time though."

"Well this was an exciting few days don't you agree Miss Inuzu?" says the first noble.

"You could say that," she replies wishing to leave his company as soon as possible.

"My lord may I ask you something?" inquires Yamashita.

"Go ahead," says the noble.

"Just who exactly was the source you kept referring to?" asks the young rock Genin.

"Well since I am in such a good mood I will let you in on my secret," says the blue and gold clad noble, "My source was none other than Kuroda himself."

"This is why I despise nobles," thinks Chiasa as she tries to hold in her anger.
__________________________________________________ __________
The Tsuchikage announces, "Seeing as the tournament has ended a day sooner then planned, we will move everything up. The official ceremony to announce if any Genins will become Chunins will be held in two days. Once again I thank you all for attending, and please enjoy the festivities."

A final cheer erupts from the arena as everyone celebrates the end of the tournament.
__________________________________________________ ____________
"Wait so what happens now that the fighting is over?" asks Yui.

"The Tsuchikage, Koukage, other high level ninja, and important nobles will meet over the next few days and discuss who they think should be promoted," explains Yoshikuni, "Once they come to a consensus they call all the candidates who made it to the third stage to the ceremony. At that point they will give their recommendation on who should be promoted."

"Recommendation? They aren't automatically promoted?" asks Naoko.

"Well ultimately the decision to promote someone to Chunin rests in the hands of the Kage or in the case of the smaller villages the Head Ninja," says Tousen, "But it is pretty much standard that anyone who is recommended by the council will be promoted."

"Wow everything is so complicated," comments Kenta.

"That is politics for you," says Tousen, "A little advice to all of you young folk. Whatever you do in life, don't get caught up in politics."

"You are only saying that because your pervyness would make you look bad," mutters Rame Tsu.

"Come on Sakura lets go congratulate Kuroda," says Kayo as she stands to leave.

"Okay sensei," says Sakura standing to follow, "Coming Jando?"

"I'm not going to praise that guy for making me look like an idiot," says Jando.

"Fine, see you later then," she says.
__________________________________________________ ___________
"When did Mazuma leave?" inquires Kenji as he puts his arms behind his head and relaxes.

"Right when Tatsuki ended the match," says Chiaki, "I guess he didn't feel like anything else important would happen."

"So do you think he will contact us if he finds anymore info?" asks Kenji.

"He will be at the ceremony so if he doesn't say anything there we can assume the Hidden Grass doesn't have anymore information on Kuroda Taishi," she replies.

"So Chiaki what are you doing later?" asks Kenji.

She sighs and replies, "Can't you just give it a rest already?"

He looks straight into her eyes with his deep green ones and says, "I'll stop when you say yes." Chiaki brushes her bangs out of the way so he can see both of her brown eyes.

She leans in close to him and then flicks him right above the nose. "Not going to happen," she says before turning to leave and drawing the attention of every male in the vicinity.

"You keep saying that, but I know you really don't mean it," he says quietly as he stares after her. When she goes out of view he turns to look up at the clouds, but finds something more interesting to look at back down on the field.
__________________________________________________ ___________
The crowds start exiting the stadium and Kuroda makes his way to an exit. As he walks away Tatsuki gets a strange feeling and wonders, "What is this? It's like I'm being drawn towards that kid. But why? Did he do something to me? It feel... it feels like I miss being in his presence." She even starts to walk after him, until she realizes what she is doing and stops herself. "What am I doing? What am I thinking? I must be tired or something. Me missing that guy? How foolish. I can't wait until he leaves so this feeling goes away," she thinks. She looks around for a moment then jumps away.
__________________________________________________ __________
When Kuroda gets outside he sees Kayo and Sakura waiting for him and walks over. Kayo starts to say "You are in a lot of trouble..." but Kuroda cuts her off, "Save your lectures for Jando Sensei. I don't feel like dealing with them today."

Kayo says, "I know that it is pointless to yell at you. You are just going to do whatever you want anyways. So I won't bother yelling at you, but I did really want to ask you a question."

"I suspected you might," he replies, "Before you start, follow me. So the Rock Ninja tailing us won't hear." They start walking in a random direction, then take a number of different twists and turns until they slip into an alley.
__________________________________________________ ___________
Two Rock Ninja appear in the nearby street. "Damn it we lost him again, and this time he had two other people with him. The Tsuchikage is going to be furious about this," one of them says.

"We have to report this anyways, if we don't we will be in more trouble," says the other.

"Fine, let's go then," says his partner. They head off back towards the main part of the village.
__________________________________________________ __________
"What was that about? Why were they following us?" asks Sakura.

"They have been following me since the second exam ended," explains Kuroda, "Don't worry about it. Now what was your question Sensei?"

Kayo asks, "Did you make the Tsuchikage's daughter sign one of those contracts?"

Kuroda isn't surprised and compliments, "Very good Sensei. I knew you would notice it."

She tells him, "I recognized what happened to Hoshi at the start of the match, when she tried to attack you. I don't know any other way she could have been afflicted like that, so I figured that you somehow got her to sign."

Sakura interjects, "Now I understand why you didn't want me to fight Hoshi. You were not just concerned about me accidentally summoning you to help, but since Hoshi also signed a contract she must have also received a seal and if I tried to kill her then you would be summoned to save her too."

"Precisely," says Kuroda, "I don't want anyone who I can't control knowing about my ability, so having to use it in front of so many people would be a problem."

Then Kayo asks, "But when exactly were you able to get her to sign? Sakura said it was in the Forest of Lost Souls."

Kuroda replies. "Yes, I assume that Sakura told you about when I went off on my own during the Second part of the exam in the Forest Lost Souls. I learned that because of my actions in the first part of the exam a number of Rock Ninja were given a secret mission to target our team specifically. I was also able to determine that they were going to set up an ambush on the path that our team was taking. Once I learned of the plan I decided to go ahead on my own and take care of the problem. I easily slaughtered almost all of the enemy ninja with my secret technique. But then I recognized Hoshi as the daughter of the Tsuchikage. I thought that instead of killing her it might be a good idea to have a spy to tell me anything I wanted to know about the Village Hidden in the Rocks. So I convinced Hoshi to join me and left her and her team alive."

Kayo comments, "How ingenious. Not only do you have a spy in an enemy village, but she is none other than the leader of that village's own daughter. Now you control someone deep inside an enemy organization. You can get secret information and potentially even assassinate its leader and no one would have a clue how it happened. But why won't you show your true powers to the Koukage? Please Kuroda, reveal all of this to the Koukage because it would be vital information and put you in her favor for once."

Kuroda harshly responds, "I have no intention of telling the Koukage about any of this, and I really don't care if I am on her good side or not."

Sakura quickly changes the subject by asking, "But if you didn't want to risk getting summoned to aid either me or Hoshi, then what was the point of fighting her today?"

Kuroda explains, "After so many forfeits in the tournament, it would be very suspicious if either of us decided to forfeit. However there is another reason also that I did it. I was not able to fully evaluate her abilities during our encounter in the forest, and I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have to come to her rescue every time she encountered an enemy."

"So you wanted to make sure she was strong," says Sakura.

"Yes," replies Kuroda. When the get to the end of the road Sakura says, "Well we were planning on going to visit Ichimaru in the hospital and tell him what happened. Do you want to come with us?"

Kuroda says, "I will be going tomorrow on my own. I will see you later."

They part ways and Kuroda wanders the streets for a while then heads back to his sleeping quarters.

Chunin Exam Promotions

Kuroda wakes up around noon the next day. He lazily makes his way outside and when he starts off towards the hospital he notices something. "So I am still being followed I see," he thinks, "Well I can't have any of that now can I? I guess it is time for another game of follow the leader."

After leading the Rock Village ANBU on another pointless chase he makes sure they have lost his trial before he heads to the hospital. He gets directions to Ichimaru's room from a receptionist at the desk and slowly makes his way to Ichimaru's room passing up Rino's room. "I should stop by and say hi to him, but I have more important things to tend to first," thinks Kuroda.

He heads up the stairs and when he reaches the top a man comes out of the first room and bumps into him.

......"Well, well if it isn't Kuroda Taishi of the Petal Village," says Mazuma Shiranui.

"It is polite to say excuse me when you bump into someone," says Kuroda. He tries to walk away, but Mazuma steps in his way and blocks his path.

"You're not going anywhere Petal ninja, I have business with you," states Mazuma.

Kuroda asks, "What possible business could you have with me?"

"Well for one thing there is our previous encounter in the Land of Grass, and also the fact that you just completely humiliated and nearly killed my student," answers Mazuma.

Kuroda tells Mazuma, "Being Hara's Sensei I understand why you might feel protective of your student, but taking revenge on behalf of him would be foolish. If you killed me then Hara would never forgive you and would never become a great ninja. A ninja needs reasons to be strong; he needs a purpose for living. There are many different reasons to become stronger such as protecting friends, a home, or a way of life. But one of the best reasons is so that a person can defeat someone who has defeated them. Now that I have shown Hara that he can be defeated, he will strive to get better and become stronger so that one day he will be able to defeat me. But if you stepped in and killed me it would crush Hara. He would resent you for stepping in and doing something that he could not. He would lose his reason for getting stronger and he would never be able to achieve the level that he has the potential to."

"As for the other matter," Kuroda explains, "I was simply on a mission and I had no personal reason for being in the grass country. Besides, the mission wasn't even the Hidden Petal Village's idea; we only participated on it because the Hidden Mist Village requested their help."

"The Hidden Mist requested it?" says Mazuma surprised by the information.

"Now if were done here I didn't come here to speak with you, I have other business to attend," says Kuroda, "Ohh, and don't let anyone know I told you about the Hidden Mist. It would put a lot of people in a difficult situation."

Mazuma lets Kuroda pass and then steps back into the room he came out of and shuts the door. Kuro Bandou and Mari Matsumoto are sitting beside Hara's bed.

"I thought you were going to get some food Sensei?" asks Kuro.

"I was," explains Mazuma, "But then I received some very interesting information from Hara's new rival."

"My new rival?" questions Hara, "Are you talking about Kuroda Taishi?"

"That's the one," answers Mazuma.

"What did he say?" asks Mari.
__________________________________________________ ___________
Kuroda gets up another flight of stairs and finally finds Ichimaru's room. When Kuroda walks in Ichimaru is writing intensely in a scroll. Kuroda asks, "What are you doing?"

A bit startled Ichimaru replies, "Oh hi. I'm just working on the strategy for my team's next mission."

"Your next mission?" Kuroda says, "You have changed a lot Ichimaru. You never used to work this hard; you were always a lazy goof off."

Ichimaru sighs, "Yeah I guess, but it would be a real drag if I didn't start it. Besides, you should take a look at yourself."

"I often look in the mirror; every wise ninja does to make sure they approve of what they become," says Kuroda. Ichimaru glances up and smirks.

Kuroda inquires, "How are your injuries healing?"

Ichimaru explains, "Well all those damn leaves Hara threw at me gave me a bunch of cuts and bruises, but nothing to serious. I should be able to make it to the ceremony tomorrow. But it won't make much of a difference if I am there or not. I seriously doubt I am going to be promoted to Chunin. But at least one Petal Ninja did well and will be promoted."

Kuroda retorts, "Nothing is guaranteed my friend. Many people don't want me to become a Chunin, including the Koukage."

Ichimaru comments, "What reason would the Koukage have to hold you back? And even if she did it wouldn't be practical. Now that you won the tournament outright many Feudal Lords, Kings, and other people will be requesting you for missions, and they will expect you to hold the title of Chunin. So even if the Koukage doesn't want it, it is not really up to her anymore."

Kuroda says, "I still have my doubts, but I agree with your assessment of the situation."

Then Ichimaru asks, "Kuroda, how did you become so strong?"

Kuroda answers, "I have always been strong, but I never had a reason to show my strength or improve it. I was content with just having fun and goof around with you. But then I found a reason, something that made me need to become stronger. I now have a goal, and I cannot attain it unless I am the strongest I can be."

Ichimaru inquires, "So what is this goal of yours then?"

Kuroda just says, "One day when the time is right I will ask you to join me and help me fulfill my goal and on that day I won't have to explain my goal, because you will understand it."

"You didn't exactly answer my question, but I guess you have your reasons," comments Ichimaru.

Kuroda looks out the window, "It is getting late and I have another stop to make."

"It is not even noon yet," points out Ichimaru.

"Yeah, but I have an appointment at noon that I can't be late for," explains Kuroda, "See you tomorrow then." He leaves Ichimaru to ponder on the talk they just had.

Kuroda makes his way to the top floor and sees that there are a large number of guards around. Kuroda figures, "This must be the right place." He easily slips by them and into a hidden corridor.

"Well isn't that convenient. I wonder why she is here," he thinks as he sees Tatsuki Asakura standing guard outside the only room on this level.

Tatsuki gets an uncomfortable chill down her back and senses, "This feeling, but how? There is no way." When she takes a look around she sees Kuroda walking towards her.

"How did you get up here? This is a private wing; no one is aloud with out permission from the Tsuchikage," yells Tatsuki as she reaches towards her weapons pack.

Kuroda replies, "I could probably lie to you and say that I do have permission, but I don't think you would believe me Miss Asakura. And even if you did you could always take a step inside that room and ask the Tsuchikage."

"How did he know the Tsuchikage is in there?" wonders Tatsuki. She takes out a kunai and points it towards him saying, "If you don't leave immediately I will be forced to remove you."

Kuroda replies calmly, "Relax Miss Asakura, I'm not there to cause trouble. I just want to see how Hoshi is doing."

Tatsuki is surprised and asks, "Why do you care about someone who isn't even from your village?"

Kuroda tells her, "Just because I am from another village doesn't mean I can't be concerned for her welfare."

Tatsuki tells him, "Even if your intentions are good natured, you are a security risk and you cannot see her."

Kuroda offers, "How about we compromise. You can accompany me into the room to make sure nothing happens." Just when Tatsuki is about to say something the Tsuchikage exits Hoshi's room.

He glances at Kuroda and then walks over to Tatsuki and whispers, "How did he get up here and what does he want?"

She replies, "I'm not sure how he got past the guards, they didn't report anything to me about an intruder. As for his intentions, he claims to want to see how your daughter is doing."

The Tsuchikage walks over to Kuroda and says, "Thank you for your concern. I can see that you are obviously trying to keep up good relations between our two villages. Did your Koukage ask you to do this?"

"No I came of my own free will," answers Kuroda.

The Tsuchikage thinks about it for a minute and then he tells him, "You may see her."

Tatsuki objects, "But Lord Tsuchikage!"

But the Tsuchikage quickly cuts her off, "What do you think he is going to do Tatsuki? If he wanted to kill her he could have easily done it during their match and would have had a valid excuse. Besides this hospital is filled with Rock Ninja not to mention we are in the Village Hidden in the Rocks, there is no way the boy would do anything to harm my daughter."

"As you wish Lord Tsuchikage," says Tatsuki begrudgingly.

"Thank you Lord Tsuchikage. I appreciate your faith in my pure intentions," says Kuroda.

"Yes, well just don't stay too long, she needs her rest so she can make it to the ceremony tomorrow," says the Tsuchikage. He leaves while Kuroda heads into Hoshi's room closing the door behind him.

........When Kuroda enters the room he sees Hoshi sitting up in her bed. She is frightened by his appearance and asks, "How... how did you get in here?"

He smiles and explains, "Your father was kind enough to grant me permission to see you."

She asks, "Why would my father let an enemy into see his own daughter?"

"First of all, our two villages are supposed to be allies, and second the Tsuchikage is wise enough to know I would not attempt to hurt you even if I wanted to," explains Kuroda.

Hoshi gets angry and yells, "You have already hurt me so much, so why is a little more going to make a difference?"

Kuroda calmly explains, "During our first encounter in the Forest of Lost Souls it was necessary for me to show you my true powers in order to get you to sign the blood contract. The second situation was unavoidable because it would have been suspicious if either of us forfeited the match."
Then Kuroda kindly asks, "How well are your injuries healing?"

Hoshi avoids answering and demands to know, "Just what is this contract about?"

"Well as you know by signing the contract you have put your life in my hands and must follow any order I give and if you try to resist that torturous pain will encompass your body until you obey my order," explains Kuroda, "There are some other rules such as you cannot try to attack me or kill yourself. Plus there are many benefits for yourself."

"Benefits, like what?" asks Hoshi.

"You will find out when the time is right," answers Kuroda.

'Just what do you plan to do with me? Why did you choose me? What is my purpose now? Are you going to make me betray my village?" asks Hoshi.

Kuroda explains, "I won't force you to help destroy your own village, but I will ask you to do things that are generally considered treason."

"Like what?" she asks.

"Well for starters I need your help," he says, "I want to learn that defensive barrier technique that you used in your battle with Dantoluxo. Normally I would have you teach it to me on your own, but since I will be leaving tomorrow that won't work."

Hoshi asks, "Why do you need to learn that Jutsu? You already have that ice shield Jutsu."

Kuroda explains, "In actuality I probably don't need any defensive Jutsu at all, but since I don't want anybody outside of my control knowing about my secret technique I have to have other techniques I can use in battle. And yes I do have that shield Jutsu, but you are only partially correct in your assessment of it. It is a powerful shield indeed, but it looses its true power when the weather is warm or when I am not near a water source."

"I see, the cold atmosphere combined with your chakra and a water source allows you to form and sustain a shield, but when it is to warm outside the shield becomes weak and will break after a few hits," surmises Hoshi.

"Precisely,' says Kuroda, "I knew I chose well, you have a very advanced understanding of chakra for your age."

"For my age? But aren't you only a few years older than me?" she inquires.

Kuroda smiles, "It may appear that way, but I won't be telling you the real truth until much later. Now, you are to bring me a scroll containing instructions on how to perform your barrier Jutsu."

"What makes you think there is a scroll detailing how to do it?" questions Hoshi.

"Come now, you are an intelligent young woman," says Kuroda, "Don't make comments that make you seem foolish. Now you will give it to me tomorrow at the ceremony. Good luck, I know you won't disappoint me."

He leaves the room satisfied that he accomplished everything he wanted to. "Goodbye Miss Asakura," he comments as he walks by the 3rd stage proctor, "I look forward to seeing you tomorrow." Tatsuki shutters at the thought and tries to contain herself until he leaves her presence. Once outside the hospital he senses another squad of ANBU prepared to tail him, so he sets off to lose them and then heads to his next appointment.
__________________________________________________ ____________
Kuroda wakes up grumpily the next morning when Sakura pours cold water on his head. He asks her, "Is there some reason you did that?"

She responds, "I have been trying to wake you for a while, but you must have been having a pretty good dream."

Kuroda explains, "I wasn't dreaming, I was meditating. Sleeping is a waste of time. You can accomplish the same regenerative effects by meditating plus experience a state of deep thought."

"Wow, really? Can you teach me?" she asks.

"When we get back to our village, we can start lessons," he says.

"Who taught you how to meditate?" asks Kayo as she appears in the doorway.

"No one," he responds, "I was able to figure it out on my own. It is not like it is that hard."

"No doubt you did. Well now that you're up, we need to get going. The ceremony will begin in less than two hours," she says.

"Is it that late already?" he questions, "I guess I lost track of the time."

"You sure you weren't sleeping?" jokes Kayo.

They quickly make their way to the appropriate building and are directed into a large room with a long table at the end. When Kuroda walks in he notices that almost everyone from the final rounds is their along with their teammates and some higher ranking ninjas from the respective villages. They walk over towards Jando who is talking to Shun and Ichimaru. They don't really talk, but just wait around for a while.

Then Hoshi walks through the door, Kuroda tells Kayo and Sakura, "You two stay here, I have some business to attend to."

Yep I have most of it planned out before I start writing.

Well if you want to help you could tell your friends, xD. Other than that, you can look over stuff when I post and tell me if you see and spelling or grammar errors. Also if you are an artist I am always looking for people to draw my characters.
