In an effort to assist the Soul Eater freeverse and to add some quality to the missions, a thread on simple grammar tips may be useful. Since the missions require a specific word count, paragraphs and sentence structure is key in keeping the writing process fun, yet comprehensible for others who might read along with your rp'd mission or fight. Rp is about quality, and not necessarily quantity; this will serve as a light guide to simple tips concerning punctuation, paragraph format and simple misused words. (anything forgotten will be added later, or as the issue comes to light.)

Punctuation:

Commas: are essential in order to avoid simple misunderstanding or misreading another person's post; i.e. attacks or explanations of abilities and so forth.

Example: While we were fighting the kishin killed Mifune.

In this example, the proper place for the comma would be place after the word "fighting".
It would read: While we were fighting, the kishin killed Mifune.

A comma also lets the reader know where an independent clause ends and another starts in the same sentence.

Example: Kevin and I were walking along a desolate street, when all of a sudden, a kishin jumped out at us from an abandoned corner.

I am going to leave off punctuation for now, and introduce the paragraph.

Paragraph: The goal of a writer (or Rper in this instance) is to get an idea across in an organized and efficient way. In order to succeed in delivering your message to readers and opponents, knowledge of the paragraph is essential. In essence, a paragraph is a collection of ideas and statements linking to the idea. In the case of Rp, it is explaining abilities and attacking opponents.

Structure: In order to keep a paragraph coherent, allow up to ONE idea per paragraph. A paragraph should begin and end with one idea.

For example attack in one paragraph and counter in a separate paragraph. This will lend to a smoother flow and more coherent counter to an opponent or mission.

A question you might ask is, "where do I even start or end a new paragraph?" The answer is simple. A paragraph starts when you are presenting a new idea, in this case and attack or counter. You may also break a paragraph when you begin dialogue, as dialogue is its own separate idea or topic.

Misused words.

Common misused words include:
They, Their, They're

They: as in "They are going to the store."; shows some sort of action and so on.
Their: (shows possession) as in "That's their book."
They're: Simple really, They + are "They're leaving now."

Then and Than

Then: "My friend and I are going to the mall, then we will go to her house."
Than: "My grades were always better than my brothers."

Our Vs Are

Our: "This is our book, not theirs."
Are: "We are going to to the all to buy our school clothes."

Its Vs It's

Yes, apostrophes often are used to show possession, however not in this case!!

Its (possession): "The tree is dead, its bark was torn off."

It's = It + is: "The tree is dead, it's time to tear cut it down."
