Itachis blindness

ok so ive watched a ton of naruto faan flash on youtube and fmor some reason itachis blind in all of them. i know he can see through sharinggan. but if he were to lose his sharingan right now...would he be blind

Ok so incase you aren't up to date with the manga or you're just sticking with the anime and you don't like spoilers don't read that. And eventually he would go blind because of his mangekyo sharingan, but you can't really determine the time it takes.
