Naruto Fan Fics here Aren't Really Naruto FanFics.

The supposedly Naruto Fan Fics here aren't really Naruto Fan Fics, and are actually just stories about shinobi. Why?

A- A Fan Fiction is a non-canon story, usually produced by fans of the canon, featuring characters and such from the original source itself. Due to the copyright rules of the Forums, said Fan Fic doesn't exist. No Fan Fic here has Naruto Uzumaki or Kakashi Hatake as a character, nor do they follow, via verging into the canon plot. Instead, they have their own completely original characters with a completely original plot.

B - Fighting via Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu are completely original. Taijutsu is actually a martial art, meaning that Naruto, or Kishimoto, can't copyright it for himself. Ninjutsu meanwhile has existed since the time of Edo Japan, along with Genjutsu, which is more of a Batman-version. Chakra meanwhile is also referred to as Chi, which is a famous Asian principle in martial arts.

C - Terminology. The word 'Kage' is not copyrighted for Naruto, because it is a common Japanese word, standing for shadow. Chi, Ki, or Chakra meanwhile are main principles of Asian martial arts, standing for internal strength. Same goes for other stuff like Susano'o, etc.

D - Things like 'Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu' are simply element manipulation, aka a generic thing in supernatural fictions. The only thing different is the format, and I wouldn't exactly jump on the gun and say that the words 'style', 'fireball', and 'jutsu' are copyrighted by Kishi here.

Not true. People are free to base their stories in other villages like the Sand or Mist villages, or they can create their own village which has similar qualities to Konoha. Thus it is set in the Naruto world.

@The rest of the thread: No, words like that can't be copyrighted, but the specific ideas and ways they're used, in a way, can be. If you were for some reason brought to court for making and selling a story about a Shinobi who uses handsigns and chakra/chi to make fire style attacks, you can't really argue that those are all common things, and therefore they can't do anything.

Well, it depends on how you use it. If you just refer to the war and mention nothing else or don't go into details, it's fine. But, if you mention characters and go into detail about the characters or the war, it's not fine. Hope that helped. If you want a more clearer answer, you can contact the Admins. :)

true they aren't really naruto fan ifcs but i is against the rules to use any naruto characters or storyline.

two i wonder if i could get my fan fic publised with out getting sueed for copyright since i did not use any characters from the series and most of it is copmltey made up.
