They all have a mean streak. They all kill as part of their job, have zero compassion for their enemies most of the time, with the exception of maybe Naruto, and, well, they're ninjas/assassins. They're killers. Of course they all have a mean streak.:p

Well, Hidan was raised to be a ninja/killer/soldier/assassin, perhaps he had to develop a pleasure for it, or how else could he do the job? The ninja villages want their ninja to be able to kill the enemy, but don't think about the psychological effects of that.

Sasuke doesn't expect anyone to have sympathy for him, he just wanted to go off and get his revenge and leave everyone out of it, but no one would let him do what he wanted.

And nobody does have sympathy for him, that's the problem. Had Konoha shown him any compassion and understanding, he might not have felt he had to turn to Orochimaru.

Evil and Mean arn't the same

None of them are truly mean. The way they were brought up makes them who they are. Sasuke, for example, is my least favorite character. His childhood really was what brought him into his current position. If nobody had ever told Itachi to kill off his clan, then Sasuke wouldn't be the way he is.

Hidan, on the other hand, is one of my favorite characters. He was probably brought up where all he knew was Jashin and the need to sacrifice for eternal life. If where he came from had never shown him Jashin, then he would be an average ninja.

This is all just my opinion. When you find a series where there is truly an evil person that wasn't brought up bad, tell me about it.

A few are quite mean, Orochimaru, Tobi/Madara, Kabuto, Danzo and even some of the females with there temper, that they can't control, like Sakura and Tsunade. Really they should learn to control there temper, it's petty ... As for the others mentioned, basically just for the fact that, they want to hurt the innocent, though Orochimaru, he used people as lab animals, which is so inhumane.
