I don't recall the name of the episode (possibly Bitter Work?) but it was the one where Iroh demonstrated lightning redirection to Zuko.

Nevertheless, I do think Bumi has a good chance, as the lightning attack requires prep time, minimal though it is.

Actually, it takes significantly longer than it takes for, say, a waterbending shield to form, Bumi to use that one move where he falls into the earth, and it is fairly slow compared to most fire moves.

Only if the bender is taking his time. It's already been proven that it's possible to use lightning more or less instantly, even without the comet.

If Iroh wanted to use lightning on Bumi he wouldn't need to take five hours to do so. As already established by the inferior Ozai in the day of the black sun, a firebender of sufficient skil can use it more or less instantly.

Iroh is best non-Avatar bender in the series, anything Ozai can do Iroh can do better.
