For me, it was jiraiya's death. I hated itachi for most of the show until finding out his true intentions so it didn't seem as bad to me, but I'm sure it did for others. So it's definitely jiraiya's death or itachi's death.

I agree. Jiraiya was such a lovable character, and Asuma had a baby on the way and his students were there. They died wishing for a better future for their students and village. Both such noble deaths. `~(
