Jiraiya can use ransengan to take care of Ino as well as Choji since he is close ranged. For Shika fire jutsu and weapondary would do the trick. Asuma is also close ranged oil jutsu would stop him in his tracks then a fire jutsu would burn him alive.

That is so unfair with those conditions asuma and choji can distract jiraya while shikamaru tries to catch jiraya with his shadow strangle after jiraya is caught asuma just blows his head off. without needo-jeezo,or toad summons ( wich are the key to jirayas fighting style) all that is left for jiraya is tai jutsu, fire style, and rasengan. but with chojis speed advantage and asuma jiraya wont last long before shikamaru outsmarts him.

When compared to a Sannin like Jiraiya, yes, every one in that team is "useless". There is nothing they can do to kill Jiraiya.

Shikamaru is no more one of Leaf's best ninjas than Ino is. He only ever wins by luck or plot and his jutsus are only effective if he's got someone to back him up. At least Choji contributed to fighting an enemy. All Shikamaru ever did was get his ass kicked around until someone useful showed up to kill his enemies before they kill him,
