I'd need to start in the academy, to learn how to manipulate chakra and the like. Learn the basics, and the rest will follow.

From there I'd work my way up, make and perfect my own jutsu, yadda yadda yadda.

If they become forbidden, I'd probably end up like Orochimaru, except I wouldn't be an albino pedophile. Just a power hungy maniac.

Hm, I have two different views:

Unrealistically: I'd want to be a Kage-level, traveling nin (Look at sig-link), being very experienced and (I know, cliche and selfish) powerful.

Realistically: I'd want to start from the bottom of the chain (Academy) and work my way up to my above "Unrealistic" goal. I suppose it's more fun that way.
