Childbirth is the most logical, although it is possible that she died during the Kyuubi attack.

I think she might have fled. Afraid of the Kyuubi inside her son, she left the village and travels the world going from village to village learning new jutsus to become one of the most powerful ninja in the world... Or maybe she died during childbirth, who knows.

Don't even worry sooner in the manga they will explain what happened to her by Yondaime or someone else. It is not over yet. They still are gonna give more info on Naruto's mom soon.

I think she took cover during the Kyuubi attack, then after she heard Minato died, she fled Konoha and Didn't want Naruto to grow up with out a father, and just decided no parents would be better, and left him with the 3rd Hokage.
