hey, im not shure if any of you know this, but i love disney. seriously how could you not like disney, because while it is a company that does nothing but steal our money for what appears to be basicaly the same basic plot (princess is captured by evil person who uses magic and is then saved by the handsome prince or whatever the male lead in the story is) except for a few other movies (i.e. lion king, hunchback of notre dame, peter pan, and hercules, and i know im missing some i just cant think of any others at the moment) but they keep us entertained with extremely happy settings, great characters, and great villans. As we all know disney sequels...have never been that great, so you can tell im gonna give this movie quite a bashing. First, though, we are going to take a look at the movie that it follows.
The hunchback of notre dame was an animated film adaptation of the novel written by victor hugo, and it was actiualy a little more mature than most disney films were incorperating themes that would be difficult to comprehend by younger children. It starts out with the tune of the song hellfire which is constantly played through the movie, the actiual opening is then played and it is sung by clopin who was originaly a poet in the novel, but in the disney movie he was changed to a singing puppetier. He explains the story of our main character, quasimoto, and our antagonist, judge claude frollo, who in this version he was changed from a priest to the judge of the court. The story took alot of risks especialy with the song hellfire which had alot of no no's in childrens movies like half naked women, religous taboos, etc. Many people complained about not only this was too adult for a childrens film, but children who had been settled with disney formulas about how the guy gets the girl or the girl gets the guy had complained about how esmeralda had married phoebus instead of quasimodo, so a crappy sequel follows.
Alright now for the real review, first lets comment on the first thing you will notice, THE ART SUCKS, okay, i get this movie had a low budget, but i mean come on its freaking disney, even peter pan 2 had better art. Okay now lets get to the story, heres my summary.
ahem
quasimodo can leave the belltower now
the circus is in town
some girl named madeline is told by the owner of the circus that she must steal the most expencive bell in notre dame cathedral
the old gargoyle gets a distinguished gender
quasimodo falls in love
quasimodo learns that madeline originaly was supposed to steal the bell
stuff happens
girl and quasimodo live happily ever after
end
okay that wasnt to bad, okay now lets get to where this movie really goes wrong, the songs and the villan. Okay most of the songs in this movie arent really bad there just...bland, except for falalala falin' in love which was sung by the gargyles victor, hugo (see what they did there) and umm...whatever her name is, and dear god is it annoying. next is the villan, note to disney, NEVER MAKE YOUR VILLANS GAY FRENCH GUYS, GAY AND FRENCH DONT MIX!!!! now how about a rating, it will suprise you
6/10, wierd it sucks yet i rate it six out of ten, well let me explain.
this sequel was actiualy wasnt even supposed to be liked, it was just to settle complaints about the first movie, so they didnt really put effort into it which really supprises me, and it really got a couple of chuckles out of me even though i just recently saw it. probably because the scenes with phoebus and achilis were just comedy gold, which is why they needed more scenes like those two. and the old man bringing his life savings to the carnival was kinda funny too. plus even though disney sorta tried to make it suck, it was better than most sequels.
