i disagree with what most people on here say. i dont like swear words at all so i am happy that the fan subs that viz has keeps it pretty clean most of the time. and i dont think just by taking out swears does it change any of the characters really other than Hidan. Yes this show is more for teens then kids but that doesnt mean it has to have swear words

hmm well maybe im wrong, i watch subbs very little and i remember a certain site say themselves (i think, at least alotta ppl said it) that they tend to "spice up the dialogue". and yeah, i understand some words like "kuso", but i guess i'm wrong. i just remember one episode; i think 84, in which hidan calls choji a "fat f***", and ppl were saying thats not what he really said.

but anyway, if im wrong, my bad. IMO, cussing doesnt make a show "better", but i wouldnt care if they put it in or not.

Well, I don't have a problem with it for the most part if it is necessary to the character and to the storyline. However, sometimes if the cussing is all that is important, it can lose its meaning.

This is an interesting topic.... first off congrats to who came up with it. Secondly I think that the show is fine after all it is basically the same thing still only more childish but I really do find Naruto's "Believe it" phrase annoying they should cut that out or at least not make him say it so much.... lol.

Unfortunately for us, the U.S. tends to overdo it on a lot of things and censoring is one of them, at least in my opinion. Especially in the manga. I have every book printed here and have compared some to the online (straight from Japan) version and often there is quite a bit of difference and it can completely change the scene. For instance, when Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura first meet Kankuro and Temari. I won't say what Sasuke called Kankuro or any of the Japanese version, but in the English version, Sakura asks Naruto if he wants Kankuro to "kick Uranus". Stupid!!! Why couldn't they have said 'kick your behind' instead of going totally corny? But, at least we have the books here, so must deal with their over censoring or do without them - and that's NOT something I could EVER do! Must have my Naruto fix regularly!! ;)

Whatever - when ADULTS, much less these KIDS, are going thru the kind of situations they are getting into, in all probability, and judging from my own experience in life - they are going to, and quite naturally so, without even realizing it, let rip with a few slang terms considered to be undesirable in most civilized circles. Then again, I've seen even hoity-toity society ladies' lose their marbles a bit and start cussin' like they've become possessed by some 2-bit thug. What looks completely stiff and UNnatural to me is when it's CLEAR AS DAY that they've "cleaned up" the dialogue for reasons that only they know.

Then again, how else d'you expect them to be able to stream it on Joost, and not catch flak for it? It's actually an overall problem that Americans - at least for the most part - still cannot swallow (not entirely) that something animated could consist of content that is NOT FOR CHILDREN. So therefore, they don't pay close enough attention to what their kid is actually watching - until they happen to notice, in passing that it's something like Shigurui or that new show....Queen's Blade? Anyone seen the first couple episodes of that yet? Viz knows American parents can't be trusted to REALLY keep an eye on what their kids are watching, and that those same parents, with whom the fault lies with if there is any fault at all, would immediately if not sooner jump so far & so fast down Viz's throat for not being 'more responsible' about the whole thing it would give Viz (& therefore, us) a painful stomachache.

Well, they should have some cuss words, but not to an extent.

Like how the dubbers ruined Tayuya, you couldn't really tell what was going on because she hardly said anything at all and they edited it to a bare minimum. The characters change when you do things like that, (especially for Sai, you all know he wouldn't be the same person if they edited everything out).

I only watch the japanese version of Naruto which is good becuase they do curse and what not. If only the Viz Media translated manga of Naruto was translated correctly with the swearing still in it...it'd make getting the manga so much enjoyable..

I'm not sure if I would like it better the original way with swear words or if they were to cut out the swear words. It would definitely lower the rating on Naruto but this is a teen show (rated teens 14+ I believe). Plus it tends to bring out the character of the characters in the show more. Cutting out the swear words would not be so popular among viewers either plus the Japanese don't seem to edit the swear words in these type of shows as much as Americans do. Overall I think they should keep the swear words.
