It is technically a fruit. It has something to do with it's characteristics. I forget exactly why it is a fruit, though.

It's a fruit. Scientist have proven it. I do not feel like explaining it so look it up online.

Reasoning I've posted in a thread like this one:
Botanistically speaking, a tomato is 100% a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant. Raspberries, and oranges are true fruits, as are many kinds of nut. Some plants have a soft part which supports the seeds and is also called a 'fruit,' though it is not developed from the ovary; the strawberry is an example.
Now, speaking in terms of the culinary arts, tomatoes may be considered vegetables due to the way in which they are sometimes used in cooking.
But, in scientific terms, there's no denying that a tomato is a fruit.
There are, however, some fruits/vegetables which contain characteristics of more than one classification, and so can technically be considered more than one thing in scientific terms, but are generally placed in one category for clarity. However, I do not believe the tomato to be one of these.

...Fruits aren't the only produce grown in gardens.
You can grow squash, corn, carrots... all of which are vegetables.

Tomato-Vegetable
Tomatoes are a fruit, I was told it was something about the seeds that make it not a vegetable.
