Is there going to be a seperate thread to discuss the 1 hour special? Also who watched it already and what did you think? I think it rushed into his character's history more than it did Kakashi's but at the same time thought it was brilliantly put together to show where most of the origins of Naruto sprung up from.

I enjoyed it more then the Kakashi's weirdly enough it was more of shall we say insightful history.....I also enjoyed how it turned into information of naruto origin....I think Jiraiya has a very interesting past.
The ending kind of left me confused, the spiky haired kid which I guess is Pain ends up with the other kids eye. Is this similar to what happened with Kakashi/Obito? (no I don't read the manga)

I thought it was good learning about Jiraiya's past. I watched it before Viz released it and I'm glad I did because...Viz completely skipped the beginning of the episode (it went straight to the opening)... They skipped the part where Jiraiya and Tsunade first meet.

You speak of Yahiko and this is what happens
When Jiraiya finds out that Konan,Nagato(Pain), and Yahiko were killed it was actually just Yahiko (similar to the Rin capture, Konan was captured and in order to save her Yahiko and Nagato rushed to her aid and did save her but Yahiko died in the process). The body of Pain that we all have seen before is actually Yahiko's body. The real Nagato is somewhere else controlling that body and many others. The piercings on their faces are chakra receptors in which enable Pain to control and use jutsu and also use the Rinnegan in each one.

it was great it showed the pains before they became well pains [before they died]
like the chubby one from the grass village and the guy with long hair who gets blind. and jiraya vs the fuma clan ninja. that was my favorite and i liked the nagato and yahiko in motion:D

I can't believed I missed that, yeah those are all the people who become Pain's paths!! I can't believe I didn't realize it!! But yeah,it was great. I really loved seeing Jiraiya's backstory it was very fun to watch. And the title of the book,"The Tale of the Gutsy Ninja" I think it's slightly influenced by the "Legend of the Gallant Jiraiya",but I might be wrong.
(For those who don't know,"The Legend of the Gallant Jiraiya" is an old Japanese folk-tale that was where Tsunade,Orochimaru, and Jiraiya got their names.)

Thx for the explanation, the twists and turns never end!

I liked it more than Kakashi's. I liked the part where Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato use the ninjutsu together to take out Jiraiya's clone (despite the scene's short length), and the part where we got to see Kushina and Minato pick Naruto's name.
