Whats the deal with hand signs in Naruto?
Do the characters need to do hand signs to preform their jutsu anymore or are they simpley doing it to fast to be shown.
Because Sasuke in episode 116 summons snakes without and hand signs and characters like Naruto and Sasuke can use wind and lightning style without any hand signs ie: chidori and wind style rasengan, where as sasuke needs hand signs to use fire style.
Back in the day when Kakashi was copying all Zabuza's moves he was relying on the sharingan to slow down the hand signs so he could use the jutsu. (Which also creates a contradiction because if all it took to use Zabuza's water style was hand signs then couldn't anyone learn them eventually without an affinity for it). But just recently (in the anime) Kakashi copies the rasengan which should be classified as copy-unfriendly along with the chidori because it doesn't use handsigns

Chidori and Rasengan or basically Chakra Control Techniques, and Sasuke is used to Chidori's chakra control that he no longer needs hand signs. With the snake thing, not sure, because Orochimaru and Anko both do that.

It helps them focus their chakra, I think.

Anko and Orochimaru have marks on their arms or something like that allow them to summon snakes like that. I think the Sharingan allows people to copy and use jutsu regardless of affinity. The Chidori and Rasengan, are like Nick said, purely charka concentration. There's really no hand signs involved there. And the 4th Hokage was Kakashi's teacher. So maybe Kakashi had prior knowledge of the Rasengan which allowed him to copy it.

The more you get used to a jutsu, the more you can control it better and use less handsigns.

handsigns r used to focus the chakra, after using a jutsu a lot, u dont need to use the hands signs as much, also rasengan is purely chakra control, and sasuke used chidori and praxticed with it so much that he doesn't need to use hand signs anymore.
I got this from Naruto Wiki:
Seals (印; English TV "Hand signs") are used to perform many ninjutsu, genjutsu, and other secret arts other than taijutsu. The exact amount of chakra neccesary to perform a jutsu is manipulated through hand seals. There are different sequences of hand seals for every technique, requiring memorization.
While techniques may require a number of hand seals to work, a skilled ninja can use less or even one to perform the same technique. An example of this is the Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique, which requires a total of 42 hand seals to activate. Tobimaru Senju, the Second Hokage, however, just needed to use one hand seal to complete the technique, a testament to his skill.
Although rare, it is possible for a shinobi to be able to do hand seals with just one hand. The only shinobi so far capable of this was Haku and Guren.

Well, as for Naruto, Rasengan or Rasen attacks for that matter, require no hand sign.
