So my friend, Jesus, was bored and told me to get on Netflix with him. We watched the whole Angel Beats series till 5 in the morning last night, and I can say that it was the saddest anime I've ever watched. I've only cried like twice over Naruto, which is a super long series, but Angel Beats....it's 13 episodes and I cried on every single one. It either made me laugh so hard I cried, or it was so freaking sad that I couldn't keep from bawling like a baby.
So have you ever seen Angel Beats?
If so, favorite character, scene, fight, obliteration, episode?
If not, WATCH IT. Don't let the name fool you, it's not a wussy girl show. It's animated extremely well, IMO.
Also, I'm gonna start Darker than Black and Elfen Lied soon. Anyone see them, are they good? Lemme know!
And if you feel like it, what're some shows that have made you cry? Those shows are the best ones, and I need the suggestions.
/overly long thread.

Angel Beats is awesome! It's my favorite series of all time. It's really great.
As for other sad anime, AnoHana definitely comes to mind. I can't watch the last scene of the that series without bawling. And there are a lot of other sad parts in it too.

Black King...watch Clannad, Kanon 2006, and Air TV. It's made by the same people that made Angel Beats. I enjoyed every single one of them however I would have to say Clannad is a true masterpiece. Watch Clannad and then Clannad after story. I don't think the first Clannad season is on Netflix though

I own Air and Kanon (2006).
Air was a disappointment. Well, the last 3 episodes were anyway. I was so confused and didn't really get why things were happening. Actually the Air movie was a much better ending to the series.
Kanon was great though. Very amazing. I think Air needed to be longer, like Kanon is. Kanon was 24 episodes of win. I would highly recommend Kanon. It had it's hilarious moments, but the last arc is really great, emotional series of episodes.
Though Angel Beats was a lot different than all other series mentioned above. Probably since it wasn't based off a visual novel, so it didn't have that "visual novel anime" format.
Also, coming up this Fall season will be Little Busters, which is the next series from Key. The plot sounds similar to AnoHana, but it still should be good anyway.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! (won't let me wrap tags around it)
he placed his spirit into the doll like how his mother had done when he was a child. Through this, Yukito was reincarnated as Sora, somehow... Perhaps because his will to find and help Misuzu was so strong. Also, because Yukito in his human form was simply not good enough, he was unable help Misuzu, but as Sora he could finally look at her in an entirely alternate perspective through speculation. Misuzu finally achieved her "goal" and died, but unlike her tragic predecessors, her life ended with good memories - memories with Yukito and especially with her mother, who was a great driving force for her as well.
The curse has not been ended yet. Misuzu's memories were left with Sora, who had to soar beyond the point any human can reach by themselves, the sky, and bring those memories to "she who is waiting in the air," the girl with wings. I believe at this point, the curse finally has been lifted, and the winged girl's pain finally ends

No, I said i've seen it in an earlier post, didn't I? I just wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone else. I feel Air is the least known Key anime, so lots of people are only going back to watch it now, so i'd hate to see it spoiled for those people.

Angel Beats blew me away. I didn't expect it to be that good.
What's the plot of AnoHana?
A group of childhood friends drifts apart after one of them, Meiko "Menma" Honma, dies in an accident. Years later, the leader of the group, Jinta Yadomi, has become withdrawn and lives as a recluse. An older Meiko appears to him, and says that she must have a wish granted, though she does not know what it is.
AnoHana can be a little overly dramatic at times, but most of the time, it's all handled really well. It also has a swing between funny and sad, but a lot of it is more sad than anything. I can think of the ending of 3 different episodes where I was really tearing up. And the ED song is just so great with the series.
It's probably one of the most relateable animes i've seen too. Since I had a close group of friends when I was younger, but we all drifted apart over the years. Not because someone died, but watching AnoHana actually brought up memories from my childhood I had forgotten about.

But at the end of episode 12, after Yuri destroys all the computers, and then sees her siblings again was an amazing scene.

Madoka? Really? I guess I didn't get too emotional attached to the series beyond thinking "holy crap this series is epic." The only time I felt sadness in this series was when...
....Madoka pretty much became a god and finally found out all Homura had done for her in all the other timelines. Their whole last scene tonight before Madoka had to leave and everyone forgot about her was pretty sad.
And I guess all of episode 10 was pretty sad. Homura became my favorite character after that episode.
I didn't really like Sayaka or Kyoko all that much, so those 2 dying didn't have a huge impact on me. But I did like Kyoko after her sacrifice though.
PMMM is definitely awesome, highly recommend it, but it's not super sad or anything. It's just epic.

I guess, there was only one episode which made me feel a little gloomy which was the one when the girl had to find the Jar in 15 minutes or her family would die. But I just can't seem to get upset in anime's most of the time. >.<

I don't know if you plan in watching the rest but... The one I thought was saddest was the girl who got a wine bottle smashed over her head by her dad while her parents were fighting. She had a stroke and lost the ability to talk. Music was her escape from the domestic violence, and she couldn't sing anymore. The part with Yui and Hinata was a heartbreaker too.
But Clannad was so good. Truly a masterpiece
I heard that Clannad is really girly? I don't know much about it.

Since you keep asking that, and no one seems to what to tell you, i'll just copy/paste the synopsis of the series from MAL.
Okazaki Tomoya is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.
One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya's attention. He soon discovers the girl's name is Furukawa Nagisa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.
However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.
As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realise life isn't as dull as he once thought.

No problem. I'm glad to help. I was noticing how no one was mentioning what the plot was.
I haven't seen Clannad or Clannad: After Story (I really want to watch them though), but i'm pretty sure it's going to be low on action. Angel Beats is the only series that has real, extended action in it out of the Key anime. (But there are plenty of anime out there that are great, but don't have a lot of action in them)
"Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Romance, School, Slice of Life, Supernatural" are the genres for Clannad.

So did they decide no on Angel Beats season 2? I saw something about 2011 that wasn't true, and then another one about spring of 2012, which obviously didn't happen. The ending was perfect for a new story.

AnoHana also has virtually no action in it, but it's all really character focused, and all the characters are well done overall. Especially the main guy and girl. I really liked those 2, and that's partially why the ending of that series was so sad for me.
And there were only rumors of a second season of Angel Beats. There were multiple rumors, but nothing official has ever been announced.
And just embrace the nerd blood. You can't hide from it, no matter how hard you try.

To actually get back on the topic of Angel Beats:
Personally, I don't want a second season. I liked the way it ended. The sorta uncertainty of the ending is what I liked about it. I don't want to see a continuation of the scene after the credits. I'm sure it would be so completely different from the original that I wouldn't like it as much.
I wish it would of been longer though. So many of the other characters didn't get scene time. I would of liked to know more about the character's pasts. Only about 5 of them got any real backstory. And the OtonashixKanade relationship seemed so forced to me. I didn't think it had enough time to really develop. If the series had a few more episodes for character development, while keeping everything else awesome the way it was, it would of been a truly amazing series.
There is a prequel manga that tells about how the Battlefront was founded. I haven't read any of it yet though, as i'm waiting for it to be completed. It's still ongoing in Japan, about about 20-something chapters have been translated online so far. It's called "Angel Beats: Heaven's Door" if anyone wants to check it out.

I think 30 episodes would of been too much. I think keeping any of the characters they had as the main villain for any really extended period of time would of gotten boring and repetitive. Angel Beats did really well at switching villains before they got too non-interesting, but long enough that they were still great adversaries for the characters...
..except for maybe Naoi. He went from "defeat everyone" to Battlefront member fairly quickly. But I guess if he was the main D-bag for any longer everyone would of hated him.

Alright, maybe then about 20 eps. I wish they could've expanded on some of the characters more like TK and could've made more of the guy with blue hair and the battlefront girl a couple

But for sure two. And I think like an episode of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Yes, I watch that show, or watched I mean. Laugh! Laugh I say!
It's the second half of the series that's really emotional and sad at times. Especially the last 2 episodes.I lied.I choked up when Yui passed, but burst into man-tears at the very end.Plus Vorn texted me right when I was blubbering like a baby so I can't face him or contain myself. I need to do something manly, like punch a bear in the ass. :(
Edit: Great animoo. I was drawn to it because it was rather short, (13 episodes), but now I regret it. In this short time I grew really attached to it. Kind of bittersweet. I probably wouldn't watch it again but it's not because it wasn't good or anything. I just know what's going to happen. I really loved it, though.
At the VERY end, I yelled 'OH ;);););), YO!' Rather mumbled it under my battlecries.

Btw, there's a OVA and a short. Short takes place after the end of the anime. It'll probably give you a little more "closure" perhaps. Or just make you depressed.

The canon of the short is questionable, since.....
the NPCs are back, and they should of been destroyed by Yuri at end of the episode 12.
So, it might be considered an alternate ending instead of an actual ending extension.
And the OVA made me LOL.
