Is Jiraiya really dead?

The last we saw of Jiraiya was him sinking into the water, bleeding out from where his arm was cut off and barely conscious. His "spirit" even touched Narutos shoulder as he was off on a mission, stopping him to in his tracks because he could feel him. It was believed that he was at that point either dead or soon to die. Yet when Kabuto uses his reanimation jutsu and bring back the strongest and the most noble ninja, there is no Jiraiya? Why wouldnt he bring back someone so powerful? Possibly because he is not dead. I am open to any opinion or conclusion.

Dont you remember it said he looked for him but he couldnt find his body under the water.....or i think Kabuto said it at one point. but if he didnt.....thats why he couldnt be reanimated

Unfortunately he's definitely dead`~( Kabuto mentions during the war that he didn't reanimate him, because he didn't have access to his DNA, because Jiraiya's body was at the bottom of the ocean at a pressure to great for Kabuto to reach. However, he later made the statement that Pain's weapons have Jiraiya's DNA on them so if Kabuto survives the war Jiraiya might come back as an ET if there is another arc after the war.

haha, I thought that too, but I'm guessing that Amegakure's lake is connected to a river which runs to the ocean, or the lake is just so deep that Kabuto said ocean. Or just another pesky mistranslationb!:)-viz version says "undersea".

If Jiraiya were to be revived it would bring an end to Naruto a student having to face a master who cared a lot for him and gave him The Quest for peace it is better to die for some thing than to live for nothing and Jiraiya is his grandpa

They don't have good enough technology in the anime to get his body. :p anyways Jiraiya's body would have been squished and busted with nothing left because it all exploded underwater :3

clearly. He's dead. We all watched him died. If Jiraiya came back to life then a huge amount of the naruto fans that exist would vanish because it's just to important to the story that he's dead. The story already has a huge problem with way to many flashbacks.

There's a chance he is not. If he is alive he had gotten extremely bad injuries, and also it would make sense in the long run.
He would have to be recovering, and with what Kabuto said, he may have also been planning on using the fact that jiraiya was alive to mess with naruto, considering he wanted to get naruto in the first place.

Okay that is what Kabuto said BUT IFFFF the pressure of the ocean was to deep how would they know that that is where he is. They presumed that there was no possible way that Jiraiya could have survived BUT he may have...i think he drifted in to the ocean and a Frog came and saved him, and he's hiding out writing books. `;)

I dont think he is.. He was in Toad sage mode first off. Second pain isn't strong enough to beat Jiraiya, Why do i say this? If Itachi can beat Nagato (Which he did when nearly killed naruto and the 8 tails), and nagato was controlling pains body, and itachi knows he himself cant beat jiraiya without dying. How could pain have possibly not only to have killed Jiraiya but to also walk away in one piece? O and yea did they ever decode what was on Fukasaku's back?
