It is probably not of real importance. I say that because Rikudo Sennin didnt get his abilities from his wife, and the notable abilities that were passed on to his sons, were his, with no mention of anything extra from his wife.

Hmmmmm, good question. Why has kishi never talked about it I have no idea. Like SilentBalde already mentioned, it might not be of that much importance. However Mito (Hashirama's wife) did have relevance on the story as well as Kushina. Could it be that the reason why Uzumaki's are distant relatives of the Senju clan is due to the Sage's wife also being Uzumaki? I don't know, that's just speculation. Anyway, we will probably never know about her.

Would explain why Kishi said in Part 1 that the Sharingan evolved from the Byakugan. Sage and Hyuuga breed, Rinnegan + Byakugan babies are born, Sharingan appears sometime down the line.
