Timothy Dolan
He was just made cardinal along with 21 others around the world (http://whispersintheloggia.blogspot.com/2012/01/red-dawn-new-york.html).

For you neophytes, when a pope is chosen all the cardinals meet to choose amoungst themeselves.

As there has never been an American pope, seems the Holy See might like to choose one next. Interesting side note, I was under Dolan's archdiocese in Milwaukee and used to listen to his brother on the radio.

How long does a ope term last?
Till they die or something?

Precisely.
The current Pope is 85 years old. Meaning there will probably be a new Pope in hte next decade. A younger Pope would be expected.

I read there are actually 2 Americans that were made cardinals

That is incorrect.
