Naruto Officially Dropped From CN

Naruto has offically been dropped from the cartoon network / adult swim roster or shows. People close to cartoon network have said the main reason for dropping naruto is because its a japanese based show, and it didnt appeal to many people in the United States

Does anyone else know more about this? This is the 1st I've heard anything.

I can't believe how touchy people can be. If a korean TV station decided not to show Korean dubbed mexican shows in favor of anime because they thought koreans preferred anime would that be racism? NO! It's called trying to figure out what people like.

CN's decision wasn't because of a hatred or resentment of Japanese people, it was a business decision based on what they felt their viewers wanted to see! I think they were wrong but I doubt it is racism.

If I started an anime only tv station would I be racist against americans for just showing anime?
Is CN full of ageists because they show cartoons and appeal to the young?
Is the Asian network racists because they don't show american news but instead cover things asians would care about back in the land of their birth?
Is food network full of hatred and intolerance for those with eating disorders?

Well i realy doubt that CN dropped Naruto, a lot of people like Naruto and the show gets a lot of views. I heard a *RUMOR* (meaning not necesserily true) that they are working on dubbing shippuden and they will finish the rest of the episodes in a month or so and begin shippuden. But that was just a rumor (makes a lot of sense to me though) and i would wait for a Mod to make an announcement before jumping to conclusions.

whoa whoa whoa i disagree on all of that, except for johnny test, that really does suck.
cartoon network has some nice shows, minus chowder, flapjack, and some others. it sucks that naruto isnt airing though.

and please, could the topic starter post a link to this information? there is no official statement on naruto's tv status, so for now we can only say its on hiatus.
but if naruto really is gone, thats CN's choice. they probably have a new vision, and any anime except for pokemon and bakugan may just not be apart of it. We'll still get our naruto, maybe just not f rom CN.

I do agree that CN is being a bit dumb tho, with their "CN real" lineup coming; contradicting their own name. but hey its business

Well I didn't read all of the post however you guys don't remember when Dragon Ball Z kept showing
repeats ? and later was less played and I think dropped for awhile ? Then new episodes came..and
Cartoon network or I should say Toonami Started playing Dragon Ball Z again..and that is from Japan..

Naruto got dropped because its ratings probably suck now due to all the Naruto being FILLERS..episodes that
are rushed drawings , or work... that have nothing to do with the story line. It all has to do with the Magna's and money
that's why Masashi Kishimoto is or was making so many fillers...fillers are boring episodes that no one cares for. after
the final battle between Naruto and Saskue..It was supposed to go straight to Shipudden..
They made so many filler episodes of Naruto, which are boring ..I think he needed more time
to create more Magna sagas

Hopefully this news is false because why would they stop it now when they are so close to Shippuden? That is just daft.

But then knowing how daft tv companies can be when it comes to cancelling great shows while at the same time keeping other shows way past their sell by date... I guess we will all just have to wait and see.

If in the end they decide not to show any more Naruto toons on tv they can at least do the honourable thing and release English dubs (uncut of course) of ever single Naruto / Shippuden season or they will feel a wrath equivalent of a 1000 Kyuubis

oh and on a side note... I actually like the filler episodes, a lot of good stuff happens in them. Okay so they don't really advance the story that much but if they didn't take breaks to do these fillers the story lines would be over too quickly and we would end up with less Naruto

Also, since Viz is releasing more and more stuff now, CN should take that as a cue to continue airing up Naruto. i think cartoonnetwork hates anime, they almost NEVER put it in their prime time line up and i have heard that they often end a series half way through it (i just heard this, i dont realy watch anime from CN a lot, other than Naruto)

Naruto is still on CN video, which means CN can air Naruto if they want too. Are they going to air Naruto? No. CN isn't going to air another episode unless something "interesting" was to happen. I'd would agree what Toma RNK said about it; too much misunderstanding about what the people would want. Honestly, Cartoon Network is caring more about what appeals to the teeny-boppers than what appeals to anime fans, art patrons, and the like. Things used to be good when I was a little kid, but now look what has happened to the networks we had grown up with, they seem to care more about the ratings and how much money they are making instead of what people actually want: compelling stories, high-quality animation, remarkable plots, characters that have complex personalities, morals and values to live by in life, and the like. When people who don't like the animations from other nations get in power in any form, they tend to decrease the amount of it shown and increase only the shows that come from the nation the person lives in. Honestly, I want those people to stay out of power because they make others very miserable and only care for their own agendas. In short, I want Naruto to be back on air and there are stuck-ups to those who are in power who don't want it to happen. Let's hope that our demands get to them first before Zabuza Momochi does...

If they had, this thread would be about a link to an article with an official statement, because that's how things work in media industries like this one. I'd also be telling you what their official decision was, because we're involved in whatever they would officially do with our properties, be it yeh, neh or otherwise. No one in media is the Illuminati, if only because it isn't profitable.

On another note, I agree with alot of the spirit of this thread in that I like anime, but I don't consider Cartoon Network 'stupid' or having 'misunderstood' their audience by any means. If the network wasn't good at doing what they do, they would have gone under a long time ago. I think the fact that most anime lovers are here on the internet, rather than watching Cartoon Network on TV, is very telling of who their 'actual' audience is. I think a larger anime audience would be good for the network in that they're a large, loyal and recurring audience, but if that audience is no longer there for the network, them not trying to cater to them is pretty understandable; if it's indeed what they're doing, which I say baselessly.

I think they are indeed losing the anime audience, but it's a little unfair to imply Naruto not being aired is what's causing that, as I think they'd largely started losing the audience already with their progressively less anime offerings. I say that in a strictly by the numbers way, as having less anime to show can't help but equal less anime watchers coming to see it. Having Naruto back would certainly help in an area they sorely need it, but I think a better question would be whether or not it's a battle for an audience they've already lost. Naruto'd be a step in a good direction, but they'd need to make more than just a single step, and get a wide variety of anime back on the network, be them ours or not.

If you really wanted to change that, watch the hell out of anything anime related still left on the network, and write them letters/emails about it. Otherwise, continuing hoping for the best, and listening for an official word or two on the matter when it comes ;).

heres the deal, naruto is far too popular a show to take off the air completely, CN might have taken it off the air in order to test out domestic productions while the prepared to dub shippuden and ready it for airtime, however, if they do not intend on letting it show on the station then so be it, there will be a tv station or the Internet itself will air it and cartoon network can be on the outside looking in scratching their butts wondering why their ratings are down and are going bankrupt

that was (more or less) what i was thinking. but all i was saying in that post is that if you want to write a letter to viz, it would be sending it to the wrong person. but i dont want to jump to any conculsions, there is no proof yet that CN did drop naruto, they could very possibly be working on airing it, or maybe even building suspense. no one here knows anything for sure, not even the mods, so we just have to wait for an official answer. i know we have all been waiting a long time, but patience is a virtue. im sure that very soon we will have some kind of news about it, just be patient and the answer will come sooner or later.

Well Cartonn Network has dropped alot of shows in their past that are still continuing. I mean didnt One Piece used to show on it but then it vanished off recently. And even if Cartoon Network doesnt show it, we can still always hope for other outlets for Naruto, it seems that quite a few Anime series exist on DVD formats and werent shown on widescale American/English tv.

I can honestly say that there is no way that Im staying up until 1AM until like 5AM on an early Sunday morning to watch any of the shows. Its just too difficult to plan for the day. I just cant imagine that if, VIZ is recording the audio in English, and if Naruto were to not be shown on Cartoon Network, that VIZ would not even release the episodes to DVD at least

I can't believe how touchy people can be. If a korean TV station decided not to show Korean dubbed mexican shows in favor of anime because they thought koreans preferred anime would that be racism? NO! It's called trying to figure out what people like.

CN's decision wasn't because of a hatred or resentment of Japanese people, it was a business decision based on what they felt their viewers wanted to see! I think they were wrong but I doubt it is racism.

If I started an anime only tv station would I be racist against americans for just showing anime?

Well, to be quite honest, I think I prefer waiting for news about Naruto being brought back. I don't know if CN is planning something for Shippuden or the last of the original series, but we'll have to wait longer, won't we? If you've watched any CN lately, (or at least the commercials for its upcoming shows) you should be able to tell there aren't many open slots, if any. Besides, I don't think one anime would bring back Toonami either. I'd like to lean towards that Naruto has been dropped, but I simply have no clue. :???:

I don't think the problem is that Naruto isn't popular.
I mean seriously, the manga is often on the best sellers list
and if the manga does well that pretty much guarantees
the anime will because most people rather watch than read.

Even with the filler episodes there are still a good number
of people who will watch it because it is Naruto.

However since there are subbed episodes of Shippuden
(which is canon material) people may choose to watch that instead.
After all, by it's very nature fillers aren't supposed to be exceptional.

I also think it has something to do with the expense of localizing anime.
I know nothing about localizing anime but I get the hunch it's not cheap.
We have to pay more than the Japanese because of localization
(though without localization we wouldn't have dubbed Naruto.)


I think Viz should really go for the online dubbed Naruto anime idea.
The episodes are already made so how expensive can it be?
(I know they're dubbed Naruto episodes on Hulu.com but they
don't get the royal treatment Shippuden sub gets)
