I recently got docked rep by EvilBuzzard for not providing spoiler tags while helping someone.

I am not upset about getting bad rep but am saddened by what I see as a bad trend.

The thread was about narutos mom. Someone asked who she was, and I told them. There is really no plot to spoil except for maybe who naruto's dad is which I believe is fair game in a thread about narutos parents.

The problem with this scenario is:

A: I was never asked to put spoilers up. Which would have been in order.
B: If the topic of parenting was out of bounds the mods should have been asked to move the thread.
c: Most importantly, I was given negative rep for helping because of some militant adherence to a "WE WANT SPOILERS" movement without any real thought.


This event highlights that users like EB are actively discouraging users from helping people. Apparently only ANBU should help people or something and I never joined that club.

Therefore effective immediately I will no longer help people until it is safe to do so on the forums again.

Please note I have not given EB bad rep for hitting me for no reason, as retaliating is bad form.

Don't ask me to reconsider my stance as "sorry" doesn't make this better. Fixing the bad behavior will.

After tonight, what has had me so busy will be completed, so I will be focusing all my attention on what has been happening and what will need to happen in the future as far as ANBU is concerned. I was just referring to the few isolated skirmishes i had with some of the newer and more ignorant ANBU members.

I would just request that you screen the people in there a little bit more and make sure that they shouldn't comment on things they don't know for certain.

Besides, it's always good to have a group of users dedicated to help others, and most of the anbu members, i have no problems with.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I received a helpful comment from someone (won't mention any names) who had a complaint about a couple of newer ANBU members. Since then, I reworked ANBU so that there is a recommended 500 post minimum to reach before I accept them. There were also some added 'stipulations' I put into our ANBU Code. These things may help some of the problem, but I'll also be more 'observant' after I finish up a 'project' tonight. I thank you for your words of encouragement. I may also see what the 'rules' are on being able to have someone 'resign' from ANBU... I appreciate all of the input on this topic and will continue to read it. You've all given me 'food for thought' on how I might best be able to 'fix' the situation. Thank you all!

All right, everyone - this is not a 'bash evil buzzard' topic and I'm sure that's not what Toma RNK meant for it to become either!! It's not just evil buzzard! If you're going to 'bash' anyone, bash me!! I'm the one responsible for ANBU and I'm the one who let them down! But the 'project' I've been working on will be finished tonight (one way or another) and I'll be back to 'leading' ANBU. Count on it!!

I recently got docked rep by EvilBuzzard for not providing spoiler tags while helping someone.

I am not upset about getting bad rep but am saddened by what I see as a bad trend.

The thread was about narutos mom. Someone asked who she was, and I told them. There is really no plot to spoil except for maybe who naruto's dad is which I believe is fair game in a thread about narutos parents.

The problem with this scenario is:

A: I was never asked to put spoilers up. Which would have been in order.
B: If the topic of parenting was out of bounds the mods should have been asked to move the thread.
c: Most importantly, I was given negative rep for helping because of some militant adherence to a "WE WANT SPOILERS" movement without any real thought.


This event highlights that users like EB are actively discouraging users from helping people. Apparently only ANBU should help people or something and I never joined that club.

Therefore effective immediately I will no longer help people until it is safe to do so on the forums again.

Please note I have not given EB bad rep for hitting me for no reason, as retaliating is bad form.

Don't ask me to reconsider my stance as "sorry" doesn't make this better. Fixing the bad behavior will.

If that were my third post and I did not know what a spoiler tag was, I would leave the forums and never come back.

I mean I came in to help, and was basically told through the rep docking "YOU AREN'T HELPING GOOD ENOUGH." If I wasn't a veteran around here I would probably just say "screw this" and leave.

I also know this is becoming a trend as it has happened to many users. I mean, seriously ts like "you need to be in the "old boys club" before you should try to help people" which is a TERRIBLE message to send to new members, and goes against the helpful open spirit these forums are getting known for

And I simply won't stand for it.

Now I'm not taking anyones side but if you are going to run and hide over one thing maybe you shouldn't be helping : (. I'm not trying to attack you or anything but, the reason you got docked was 'cause you spoiled something not 'cause you were helping someone. So if anything, if I were you I would be a smarta$$ and mark everything as spoilers from now on.

P.S. It was just one thing, just don't help buzzard ^_<.

I will PM people who put spoilers in TITLES, cause that's just brutal, however if they do it more than once, I'll downrep them once. My reps do a lot more than most so I like to be conservative.

The easy way to fix this REP "problem" is to start giving positive REP to those who actually use the spoiler tags, help, etc. I honestly had no idea about this problem until this thread because as far as I could tell no one even used REP for any good reason.

For example the only REP I have is for a post that had to do with Naruto coming onto tv, even though I was stating how it would effect me.

It honestly isn't that hard to accomplish either. If you see a intellectual post that doesn't flame people, troll, etc then give them some +REP. If you see the exact opposite, then check their recent posts and see if it is a constant thing. If it is then -REP them.

Note: I didn't read all the posts in this thread, so sorry if I am restating something.

I have given one person a 'bad' rep. I saw one post, then from that one, went and checked others. There was a pattern there, so I knew it wasn't just that one time. I put the reason for the 'bad' rep, but I also put my name on it so they would know who did it. That way, they could pm me to ask questions if they wanted to. I have no problem 'reprimanding' someone if it's really needed.

What was there to be wrapped in spoiler tags? It was common info on Kushina, which can be found in data books, and the manga. The title in and of itself is the spoiler tag.

The only thing I read in there that was a spoiler was that Minato is Naruto's dad.

Other than that nothing was a spoiler really. I personally think that making spoiler tags necessary in only the threads without *SPOILERS* in the title should be the rules. This way people wouldn't need to worry about what needs to be tagged and what does not because whoever enters the thread is expecting spoilers anyway.

This would most likely stop people from docking rep because of spoilers since most threads with spoilers have *SPOILERS* in the title anyway.

We've all said from the beginning that it wasn't just you - that the problem is more a 'trend' that several people are doing. That's why people need to read a whole thread (though it takes time) before making a rash judgement on something!!!


I have a suggestion for the Mods!! How possible would it be to change one thing on the rep system... make it so that you have to put your name on it whether it's bad or good rep!!! That would at least solve part of the problem!! I don't have a problem putting my name on it either way and neither should anyone else unless they're just doing it out of spite!!

its not a time span issue. you have to rep a certian amount of people before you can rep the 1st person again. this is very easy to bypass

"fixing the user" means correcting the behaviour or changing their habits.

If no one could stay logged in because they always clicked "log out" right away, the only two solutions are:

For me i want to have positive rep by earning it and negative rep for earning it but I don't care about the Jonin rank now I'll rather try to earn my own custom rank

The thread was about narutos mom. Someone asked who she was, and I told them. There is really no plot to spoil except for maybe who naruto's dad is which I believe is fair game in a thread about narutos parents.

The problem with this scenario is:

A: I was never asked to put spoilers up. Which would have been in order.
B: If the topic of parenting was out of bounds the mods should have been asked to move the thread.
c: Most importantly, I was given negative rep for helping because of some militant adherence to a "WE WANT SPOILERS" movement without any real thought.


This event highlights that users like EB are actively discouraging users from helping people. Apparently only ANBU should help people or something and I never joined that club.

Therefore effective immediately I will no longer help people until it is safe to do so on the forums again.

Please note I have not given EB bad rep for hitting me for no reason, as retaliating is bad form.

Don't ask me to reconsider my stance as "sorry" doesn't make this better. Fixing the bad behavior will.

What was there to be wrapped in spoiler tags? It was common info on Kushina, which can be found in data books, and the manga. The title in and of itself is the spoiler tag.
It's common info for manga-readers, but for anime watchers, the fact that the 4th is Naruto's father would be a huge spoiler. On top of that, the thread was called "Did anyone noticed?" There was no sign that it would be a spoiler... You did follow the link to the thread, didn't you?

Other than that nothing was a spoiler really. I personally think that making spoiler tags necessary in only the threads without *SPOILERS* in the title should be the rules. This way people wouldn't need to worry about what needs to be tagged and what does not because whoever enters the thread is expecting spoilers anyway.

A problem that has surfaced recently is that people put spoilers i the titles, hence it's visible to everyone.

But the real issue with this thread is toma knocking down people who rep for bad reasons. There have been a lot of these issues and a lot of people have left the site just because of this reason.

I know about this problem. Recently, I recieved negative rep on a comment I made in a Kyuubi vs Godzilla thread. I said, "Kyuubi. Period." It said, "Bad debating logic and points". I'm not sure how it was what they said. It may have been becuase I didn't give a reason for my opinion. Still, I don't think that's it, since 90% of the thread was 1 or 2-word answers, and I highly doubt they Negative repped all of them.Therefore, I'm left thinking that the only explanation is that the person disagreed with me, and didn't like that. Does this happen a lot, people neg. repping people who disagree with them? Is that even within the rules?

I know about this problem. Recently, I recieved negative rep on a comment I made in a Kyuubi vs Godzilla thread. I said, "Kyuubi. Period." It said, "Bad debating logic and points". I'm not sure how it was what they said. It may have been becuase I didn't give a reason for my opinion. Still, I don't think that's it, since 90% of the thread was 1 or 2-word answers, and I highly doubt they Negative repped all of them.Therefore, I'm left thinking that the only explanation is that the person disagreed with me, and didn't like that. Does this happen a lot, people neg. repping people who disagree with them? Is that even within the rules?

If the thread would have not been posted there NARUTO EVENTS (hint is for when something about NARUTO happened or is going to happen) i would have agreed with Buzzard, i would have docked the thread starter and you (for not using spoilers) but seeing that the thread was in a "spoilers galore" forum, it takes a different set of "rules". Now if you were to have posted that on the waterfall like "that guy" then that would have been different.

You know i hate those bits of information that should be in spoilers and are not, and i am one of the persons to bad rep for not using spoilers but for that thread i would have read the first post and question and I (knowing that i could encounter spoilers there) WOULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT BEFORE I READ THE SECOND POST.

AND PEOPLE IF YOU HAVE SPOILERS ON YOUR THREAD PLEASE TRY TO USE SPOILERS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and stop using them for thishi guys :) dumb reason for a spoiler

ALSO IF YOU THINK ITS A SPOILER PUT IT IN THE SPOILER TAG AND DONT EVER PUT SPOILERS IN YOUR TITLES. WE HAD A PROBLEM LAST WEEK WITH A BUNCH OF TITLES POPPING OUT LIKE THIS "DANZO GOT A HOLD OF THE BLAH BLAH" BUT THEY DIDNT USE BLAH BLAH THEY ACTUALLY PUT WHAT IT WAS. THANKS FOR RUINING NARUTO GUYS :mad:

There are places in this forum that you wont see me around in THE RAMEN SHOP and TOWN BOOKSTORE, i know there's spoilers everywhere. Thats why i have them minimized.

Well, I really don't know, but if you receive one without any comments ASK the mods, because there are people just doing that for fun.

I'm pretty sure you need to leave a comment to give negative rep, but I could be wrong. But if the comment is just:

"You suck!", then you can bring it up. But you need the thread it was in, the time it was given, and the comment that was made for us to find it.

All right. Thanks for explaining it to me. ...And people go around giving negative rep for fun? I didn't know that before!
Also, my control panel only show the latest rep I've recieved. Where can I find all the rep I've gotten? It wasn't in the FAQ (I think).
